Why exactly is Curtis Granderson in the 2 hole?

We usually have our best hitter there.
We just put our worst hitter there now?

Ughhh
Cannot wait until Corey gets back.

2017 REGULAR SEASON LA Dodgers & international

Great.

Now Turner is thrown out.
Smfh.

As if we needed a worse lineup to try and get this ever elusive win.

In Justin's defense, that was a horse **** call that Taijuan Walker did not deserve.

I could ask what Avilan is doing in the game at this point but my guess is Dave is just putting in non high leverage players in high leverage situations to prove to the world he's not panicking like they are.

Unbelievable that we walked the bags loaded for another idiot to hit Daniel Descalso.

I absolutely hate this team over the last week.

Completely unimpressed with Dave over this stretch as well.

Bullpen Availability

Post#1066 » by Ranma » Thu Sep 7, 2017 4:40 am

Avilan had been fine before tonight, but yeah, he should have been pulled earlier. I was hoping to see Buehuler tonight but Dave said he wasn't going to put the kid in high-leverage situations yet. Plus, both Morrow and Baez would be unavailable tonight with Morrow dealing with a back issue they want to avoid getting out of hand.

Dave's Decisions

Post#1067 » by Ranma » Thu Sep 7, 2017 4:43 am

While I've said before that I'm not panicking just yet, I also concur that I have been critical of Dave's calls of late. A good manager should be able to get us out of a slump instead of seemingly exacerbating them with questionable decisions. Yes, I know we're limiting our options with injury recuperation and tryout evaluations, but this team is talented enough to win games regardless.

I am going to panic.

There's 2 reasons not to:
1) We don't play the Dirt Bags again
2) The math is just in our favor.

There's nothing from a baseball stand point that has given me any confidence.

We can blame injury, but we didn't see Goldschmidt this series so....no excuses.

Win a game and I'll change my tune.

For now, we have a manager whowould probably throw Baez right now if it was at all possible and:

- didnt bunt Taylor over in the bottom of the 9th last night.
- Continues to bat Curtis Granderson 2nd (like I said...we need to stop trading for "hot" players)
- Punted on the 1st game of our double header in San Diego when we had a lead to test out Wilmer Font (I believe the idiot gave up a walk off in this game).

The math isn't in the Dirt Bags favor but they certainly have time to catch us and a littany of dumb baseball on our parts to help them out.

Prioritize Winning Baseball

Post#1070 » by Ranma » Thu Sep 7, 2017 5:45 am

I still don't have a problem with trading for Granderson since he didn't cost us anything really. He just shouldn't be playing everyday, especially since he's not hot anymore. I still like Font as a bullpen option and am not ready to write him off after just 2 outings; he's been better than Buehler in the minors despite Buehler being the better prospect.

Remember both Watson and Cingrani had down seasons before settling in and playing well for us lately. I'm sure the pitcher whisperer can help both Font and Buehler adjust to MLB hitters.

I agree that we need to start winning games and that we're displaying bad habits and performances during this slump and part of that falls on Dave Roberts' shoulders. We can't take for granted that we'll eventually flip the switch and get hot again. The Dodgers have to start prioritizing playing well again. What's the point of rest and tryouts if we're going to come up short because we forgot how to play good baseball.

Font is cool with me. I just think Doc fumbled his debut giving him a 2nd inning when we needed a win.

________

The outlay is only one portion of the Granderson deal. The other part is adding a piece to fix something that isn't broken.

He wouldnt be half as annoying if he was actually a better hitter than Joc but who cares when he gives you a "professional at bat" before he gets out.

For now, the only good aspect of the deal isn't even baseball. It's that he didnt cost that much.
_______

I don't believe in magic but I'd certainly feel better with the guys who got us 92 wins coughing it up at this stage as opposed to guys who had nothing to do with (or very little to do with it-- Grandy and A-Gon) these 92 wins stinking it up to end the season.

Best Lineup and Rotation

Post#1073 » by Ranma » Thu Sep 7, 2017 7:08 am

I still trust Granderson over Pederson right now, but I definitely agree that he and A-Gon should be used more sparingly than as regulars. It should be pretty similar to how we've been using Chase Utley.

In my opinion, the best lineup assuming everyone is healthy is as follows:

    LF Chris Taylor
    SS Corey Seager
    3B Justin Turner
    1B Cody Bellinger
    C Yasmani Grandal
    RF Yasiel Puig
    CF **** Hernandez
    2B Austin Barnes
    P Clayton Kershaw

I know Logan Forsythe will likely get the nod at 2B, especially with Barnes being the primary backup C, but Barnes deserves to play more and it can be argued that he's a better option than Grandal in the lineup. The problem is that starting both Barnes and Hernandez diminishes the Dodgers' vaunted versatile bench, but having both of them play regularly benefits us more. Another issue is that the lineup would be right-handed-hitter heavy.

I'm not sure either Joc Pederson or Javier Pedro Baez deserves a spot on the postseason roster, but they'll likely make the cut, anyway. The same applies to Andre Ethier.

My starting rotation for the postseason remains as follows:

    LHP Clayton Kershaw
    RHP Yu Darvish
    LHP Alex Wood
    LHP Rich Hill

As of right now our postseason bullpen setup should be as follows:

LHP Tony Watson - 7th inning
RHP Brandon Morrow - 8th inning
    RHP Kenley Jansen - closer

Both Luis Avilan and Tony Cingrani deserve spots in the bullpen. Likewise, Hyun-Jin Ryu and Kenta Maeda have been 2 of our better pitchers over the season, but neither is in line to start in the postseason right now so they should help as bullpen options. I'd love to see both Wilmer Font and Walker Buehler show enough to displace Baez from the postseason roster.

Also, if Wood can't resolve his mechanics or health issues, then moving him to the bullpen would boost the strength of our relief corps with Maeda or Ryu moving up into the open starter spot. I still have doubts about Darvish performing well in the postseason, but we have to hope that the coaches and his battery mates can guide him into harnessing his impressive stuff for more consistent production and sustained excellence. Hill may be a bit up-and-down lately but I have faith that his grit will enable him to step up in the playoffs.

Dave has just guaranteed that we'd win the NL West.

Whatever.
Just get Corey back at SS please.

No Seager... again.
No Turner in tonight's lineup either.

Offensive Jamal Crawford (not to be confused with our Bullpen Jamal Crawford) still batting second which I still don't get but uhh...sure thing.

Dirt Bags play the Padres right?
Looks like the lead has a decent shot at being under 10 tonight.

Go Kershaw!
Be perfect or we lose. What else is new?

And with this lineup, that HR is the ball game.

9.5 up tomorrow?

Still not panicking?

Taylor runs us out of another inning this week.

Unbelievable.

Thank you for the gif, Ranma.
No need to run from it at this point.

Actions Speak Louder Than Words

Post#1079 » by Ranma » Fri Sep 8, 2017 4:07 am

I don't get why Brock Stewart keeps getting chances when he's proven to be not ready this season. Dave talks about the team having confidence in the process, but you have to follow through with actual actions.

Granderson needs to sit even it it's only to get a break. Dude should not be an everyday player at this stage of his career.

Stop going to Pedro Baez expecting something different when that well has been dry for some time now.

If other players are not stepping up, play Austin Barnes and **** Hernandez more as regulars until their teammates step up.

We're actually dragging Clayton Kershaw down with us instead of putting him in position to lift us up.

Something poetic about Kershaw not being able to save Dave tonight.

Partially cuz I think Doc managed us that way....put out a lineup tonight like that too.

I like it this way (though I hate this slide overall). There are no saviours. There is no "help" in sight. Get your **** together and start playing better baseball.
