UFC 215: DJ vs. Not TJ Dillashaw/Nunes vs. Schevchenko (9/9/17)

Post#1 » by AirCanadaMouse » Wed Aug 16, 2017 4:25 am

Didn't see a thread for this? Sorry if there is one already. It's a very solid card all around. RDA - Magny is very interesting, Gavin Tucker is back after a very impressive debut, The debut of Arjan Bhullar too, Tyson Pedro is one of the more intriguing up and comers in the LHW division, and Cejudo can be in line for a title shot with a win in a good flyweight matchup too.

Gilbert isn't what the same from his WEC/PED days, but still glad to see him back too. The main card speaks for itself. I wouldn't bet against JDS either. I'm all for the Ngannou hype train, but people keep saying JDS is on the decline while he continuously proves them wrong.

Flyweight Demetrious Johnson (c) vs. Ray Borg
Women's Bantamweight Amanda Nunes (c) vs. Valentina Shevchenko
Heavyweight Junior dos Santos vs. Francis Ngannou
Featherweight Jeremy Stephens vs. Gilbert Melendez
Welterweight Neil Magny vs. Rafael dos Anjos
Women's Bantamweight Sara McMann vs. Ketlen Vieira
Light Heavyweight Ilir Latifi vs. Tyson Pedro
Flyweight Henry Cejudo vs. Wilson Reis
Featherweight Gavin Tucker vs. Rick Glenn
Heavyweight Luis Henrique vs. Arjan Bhullar
Women's Bantamweight Ashlee Evans-Smith vs. Sarah Moras
Lightweight Kajan Johnson vs. Adriano Martins
Lightweight Mitch Clarke vs. Alex White

I was kind of hoping to see RDA against someone a little better at WW tbh, especially after his impressive debut vs Tarec. IDK maybe I just underestimate Magny since he was put down so easily by Larkin.

Does that even hit 100k buys, or does Nunes put some distance from it because she drafted off Ronda's hype? They don't even have it as the main event though. The actual one is a joke from a marketing standpoint. Seriously, who is going to buy the card off that outside their family, friends, and a minority of the typical bars?

Who the f*** is Ray Borg?! Wish DJ would go up to 135, nothing left at 125.

Back when all the drama was going on with Dana/Mouse, Borg basically said he didn't care if Mouse fought DJ, that he would just fight someone else if so.

He doesn't want these problems.

I rather have the Cody/TJ fight. Let MM get his record and then he can move up.

Thank Goodness. He's in Nog territory in terms of fighters who need to be prevented from continuing.

For the UFC to feed him to Ngou is just soulless

Ya, I'm happy he's out.

Of all the divisions, HW is the one that the guys really need to stop early and not linger around too long. They are throwing baseball bats at your head. I feel for JDS, he wants to continue, but go live your life while you can semi walk, and talk straight.

Hmmm. So I've been selectively betting again. I was going to throw some dough on Shevchenko but disappointed to see her at -120 at my book. I think she will win this fight over the course of 5 rounds, but was hoping to get her at closer to +120 than -120. Anyone else betting?

Melendez dropping to FW seems bad.

DJ was worried Dillashaw wouldn't make weight, the fight would get called off, and he wouldn't get his weird record that I'm not sure anyone cares about.

Well...

That was the fatal flaw in his argument from the very start. He wanted money up front in case TJ couldn't make weight, all the while advocating for a guy who misses weight half the time. Wow. EDIT: Not saying he fell out due to weight cut but I'd be floored if it wasn't related.

Nunes-Schevchenko was the more marketable fight in the first place anyway. Unfortunately for the UFC they only have one day to market it as the main event now.

Card doesn't change at all to me. It's still one where I'll watch the free part of and probably enjoy some because there are some decent fights, but it's nothing I'd ever anticipate let alone pay for.

Will this be the lowest selling ppv of all time? I think it had a great chance. Its surrounded by a ton of events, not the least of which was the biggest PPV ever and cost $100. It was never going to sell well, now its had the main event and the third fight from the top fall out.

I think it depends on if UFC can get Nunes a couple late appearances on ESPN. Otherwise the thing is totally doomed and I think will contend for the lowest selling one ever. Will do poorly regardless.
