I'm not trying to get to hopeful but he does have the potential to be an all time hornet.

Malik having a good time with his UK guys and arguring with Bam that Charlotte > Miami.
Miami drafted a good one. I hate that they have another NC kid but at least he's playing for a good organization.

Agreed. Seems like a high character guy for a very high character organization (mainly headed by Spoelstra at this point).

Re: We Want the Monk: The Malik Monk Thread
Monk, the 11th pick in the 2017 NBA draft, is considered more of a shooter, but Clifford is hoping he can play some point guard, too.
However, the team hasn't been able to get a good look at Monk since he joined the team. Kentucky's all-time leading scorer missed the entire NBA summer league because of an ankle injury he sustained during pre-draft workouts. He recently tried to participate in two optional non-physically demanding workouts, but couldn't finish them because of fatigue.
"His ankle injury was significant," Clifford said. "He wasn't able to have anywhere near the summer that I hoped for or what he hoped for."

You can already hear Clifford's Vonleh-esque explanations for future DNP-CDs.

Or maybe Malik will actually play because he can actually play. Vonleh is a marginal NBA player now. Imagine how bad he was in practice when he was here.

Re: We Want the Monk: The Malik Monk Thread
I think that the biggest hit for Malik early on will be PT at the PG spot. If he had had a full summer of league + practice with the guys & staff then he would likely be playing some spot PG minutes from early pre-season on, which would help to blunt the impact of MCW's surgery.
As things stand now, I expect that Malik will get some PT early on. The things that will determine how much are:
* Number of mistakes made
* Effort on D
* How desperate the team becomes for scoring
I still stand by my project of 18 MPG for his yearlong average.

My picks:
2020 Draft (3rd pick) - Tyrese Haliburton, Devin Vassell, or Onyeka Okongwu

I wish we could have made it to training camp before the disappointment started rolling in. We already got Monks set back and MCW has two bad knees...

Monk played point guard his entire career prior to last year at Kentucky. We were really, really lucky that events transpired the way they did. I fully expect him to be PG2 at the start of next season - Silas is going to work his magic on him.

Re: We Want the Monk: The Malik Monk Thread
Well his defense is as bad as advertised. Falls asleep off the ball and has trouble staying in front of his man on the ball. I'm hopeful these two issues can improve fairly significantly. He at least needs to get better in one of the two areas quickly anyway.
Offensively, I really like what I see though. He is showcasing his ability to handle the ball pretty well. We already knew he would be a scorer off the ball, but to really unlock his potential we need him to be able to iso, fulfill backup PG duties or be the main handler in MCW lineups. His shooting was off tonight but that was probably due to heavy minutes because we had so many injuries.

The kid has superstar potential, from what I have seen this week. I say we rename this The Mr. Monk Thread.

He has the athletic ability to become a good defender. He will need coaching and leadership. I feel like he’s on the right team to improve defensively. Offensively, he looks electric.

Dwight compared Monk to a better shooting Steve Francis in his post-game interview. I think everyone on this board would be pretty pleased with that that outcome.

I've said all along he's really got some Steph Curry in his game. I cant believe people took low ceiling guys like JUSTIN JACKSON over him...

Justin Jackson was picked 15th and Monk was picked 11th.
But yeah I'm nothing short of thrilled we got Monk. He definitely seems like the Beal/Klay/Booker/LaVine type shooting guard that we always have a chance to draft but never do. His shot is just natural. I've said it before but I haven't been more excited about one of our prospects in the last 10 years. And this is coming from someone that was completely overjoyed we got Bismack and MKG.
investigate Adam Silver
