Could have gotten Barbosa for free but McDonough has said he wants a guy in his 20s.

Boom!

Great news for us. We tank one more year and then we can compete starting in 2019 knowing that the odds are flat.

Also good news for that future unprotected Miami pick. If it's lottery, we will have better odds at winning a high pick.

It was never supposed to impact next year. Having said that, it might have benefited us next year. Teams 4 on down would have better odds, and especially once you got down to like 7th or 8th worse record your odds will likely double from what they currently are.

As a matter of fact, assuming we gradually get better over the next few years, it could really help us in like 2019 and 2020 and give us a much better chance at moving up.

I'm disappointed by the ruling from our perspective.

25% and 20% chances in the lottery will only exist twice more, which may lead to an ultra tank by teams like Atlanta, Chicago, Sacramento, New York.

And the smoother decline that was forecast won't help teams in the 5-10 range this year so there is no change in incentive for us to win 30-35 games.

If the Suns do everything on plan, this should be the last year in the lottery with a high pick(hopefully #1) and then in the playoffs next year with combo pf great rookie and FA signing.

I don't see us getting in the playoffs next year, though if some of the older teams fall off quickly I guess it would be possible. If we get top 4 in this draft and then sign a star like Cousins, I think we'll move up to late lottery but I don't think that will quite be enough in the West. I think the year after is when we would turn the playoff corner as Booker and crew get into the 23-24 range.

I remember saying at one point on here “that guy has a very punchable face” about RJ Hunter when we were playing against him. It all comes full circle.

ESPN says Danny green, brogdon, and Covington will be better than booker here.
Dis-cuss.

I think Green and Covington will be more conducive to winning games, as both are elite defenders and good shooters. Unless of course Booker takes a big step in being more efficient scorer. But really hard to rank players who play totally different roles and are in totally different situations (both team wise and in their careers).

Yes, we were mentioning his rank in the Booker thread. Even Booker's subpar scoring efficiency doesn't help us. He needs to improve there. He was 12th in eFG% on our team and 9th in TS%.

It's weird to see them project who they think to be the 60th best player to also have a negative RPM.

Honestly, out of those names, i'd like to see us take a shot on Silas. His father was a great player, we already know what he looks like in a Suns jersey, he has been clawing his way into the league (When others have given up by now, he keeps going), played pretty well in the Big-3 League too. Most importantly he fits what we need, someone to come off the bench that can hit the 3 ball. I think it would be a good look on us to bring up a guy from our development team in NAZ rather than just grabbing one of the other names mentioned.

I understand we are loaded with 3's, but only $1.6m for Isolation Shabazz?

https://basketball.realgm.com/wiretap/247394/Shabazz-Muhammad-To-Re-Sign-With-Wolves-For-$16M

I'd take flyer on him for that.

May as well play a lineup of 2 small forwards at once.

Yeah, not sure why he could not get a better offer. At least $5M/2 years.

The guy can play, solid SF to come from the bench.

Would have liked to see:

Bledsoe/Ulis
Booker/Shabazz
Jackson/Shabazz
TJ/Bender
Chriss/Tyson

I think he's better then Jones Jr. and he could probably fill in at the 2 and 3.

Although...his agent is Rich Paul. I wonder if that had anything to do with it.

P.S. Things ain't looking good for Len.

I like Shabazz as a player, but he's an awkward fit in any locker room (I gather from his interviews) and he'd be a terrible fit with this team. I don't want to see Shabazz sharing the court with Warren or with Booker. Jackson can pass, but that's one pure scorer too many... I had to check it, but Shabazz somehow manages to get fewer assists per 36 than TJ.

I'm surprised someone else wasn't willing to give him more, though. How quickly things change. There's no fairness to NBA contracts. Some guys get paid, and some guys don't.

Another quiet offseason for Phoenix, but your major move was made on Draft Day. Excited to see how Jackson goes this season.

Biggest questions for PHX:

1. Can Bender and Chriss co-exist long term?
2. Will Len be back for 17/18 and beyond?
3. What do PHX do about the lack of depth at SG?
4. Are the Suns truly committed to #TheTimeline?

1. Can Bender and Chriss co-exist long term? Yes, they're very different players.
2. Will Len be back for 17/18 and beyond? Probably not.
3. What do PHX do about the lack of depth at SG? Play Booker 47.5 minutes per game
4. Are the Suns truly committed to #TheTimeline? Yes, at least till next offseason
