Boban at the FIBA Euros

Post#1 » by cace » Tue Sep 12, 2017 3:24 pm

Anyone keeping an eye on Boban in action in Europe?

He has been coming off the bench for Serbia and is second top scorer for the 3rd seeded Serbian team at 13ppg. He had some big performances against Russia and Belgium.

Serbia is through to the QFs agst Italy on 13 Sep.

Hope to see more of this guy play.

If you have ESPN as part of your TV package you can use the 'WatchESPN' app to stream these games including replays. They're on ESPN3. I've been streaming them through ROKU. A lot of available games. Boban has looked pretty good. He's hit some nice sky hooks.

He's getting more minutes than he will here... no signs of endurance issues.

That's good to know. I think too much has been made about the endurance issues. He's such a mismatch on offense, hopefully the can find a way to put him in a good position on defense.

Boban is dominating against Russia and over Mozgov at the half time. He made great dime in Jokic style and one huge block on Mozgov.

They let Mozgov get away with murder, at least once Boban got elbow in the face and refs just looked the other way. Nonetheless, massive performance, well done. :D

Boban brought Serbia to the final game. Can Boban be stopped in the final game on Sunday?

Highlights are on Slovenian language and Bogdanovic is included also.

only watched a bit of the serbia-russia game but i was surprised/impressed with how boban was actually defending closer to the perimeter on pick and rolls, i assumed they'd just have him sit under the basket in zone.

it'll obviously be a lot tougher to do in the nba but hopefully he is able to step out a little farther on defense this year, it'd go a long way in him being able to stay on the floor.

Boban tests his soft touch while Bogdan is trying to pull of some stunt shots.

Coach pulled him from the final moments of the Russia game when it became tight. I think it was because his defense was abit deficient as the Russians came to within 4 points. He otherwise had a very good first half, was top joint scorer for most of the game, and finished with 7/10 shooting. He was also 4 for 6 from the line.

Do you remember Datome? Take a look at his FIBA's perfomances. I love Boban and I think and hope he can contribute this year, but extracting conclussions from FIBA's basketball isn't a good idea.

Shved has looked like a monster when he couldn't even get a legit spot as a NBA player. Both Bogdanovic looked like stars too. Hopefully Boban can play in certains matchups this season, but this tournament isn't a good reference for how the players game translate to the NBA.

he passed the ball very well. he had 4 assists and his team made a couple more points based on his passes (mainly FTs). still turnover-prone.

Few conclusions could be made tho. Played 9 games in ~2 weeks, averaging 16+ min. per game/1st option and still looked fine psychically, a bit gassed at the final game, but by that time the whole team was tired as well. Also shooting FTs 87% (40/46) was nice.
