It's seriously time to get up for every game. Just pretend the Pirates are the Cubs or Dodgers.

ETA: its pretty inevitable that we lose like 11-1 right?

For those who follow the PL. We are like Liverpool, where we play excellent against the top teams but are generally useless or struggle against the bottom feeders, except we won't get top 4/playoff spot.

I have nothing to back this up statistically but I just feel like Domingo has been the most clutch hitter w RISP on the team. 5-2 Crew headed to 4th.

That was a big hit, but he's gotta slide or at least make an effort to avoid the tag. Any decent slide away from the catcher and its another run across.

You would be right. Santana, Shaw and Aguilar are the best on the team with RISP. I know some don't look much at that stat because of small sample and such and that makes sense for a guy like Ryan Braun who is struggling with RISP this year but probably doesn't mean a whole heck of a lot. However with a young guy like Santana it is nice to see that he comes through in high pressure situations. Just like pitchers have high leverage spots I certainly think hitters can buckle under the pressure of getting runners in and that hasn't been the case with Santana.

Like I posted earlier the numbers on Braun this year just are not very good. He's having a bad year and unfortunately is probably going to only decline more going forward. Really need to think about what were going to do with him long term this winter. He probably isnt tradeable so a move to 1st may be the best option.

The RISP stuff is not the issue with Braun. We know he's not nervous in the clutch. If you want to make use of a statistical trend, you need a decent theory to back it up. There's no sound theory that backs up "clutch" hitters. Everyone's always trying to hit well, so it's not like they do something different in the clutch. It would be a sign of laziness if you only do your best hitting in the clutch. But there is a sound theory about being anti-clutch. We all know what it's like to be nervous and tighten up. Therefore I think there is such a thing as an anti-clutch hitter, and I think the Brewers have a few of them right now. Combined that with a few others having fluke deviations in that category and you have an unmitigated disaster in RISP hitting.

Personally I think the thing with Braun is that he is showing some sings of age. He always has not been able to foul off that two strike unhittable down and out breaking pitch. He's swinging and missing at the pitch in which he used to foul off a ton. He's at the lowest in his career at pitches per AB. He has had some tough luck with hard hit balls making outs but so kind of does everyone. Its going to be an interesting study with this team going forward. Their model has been to shy away from the "pure contact" type of hitter opting for power over contact. Even coming through the minors now we have basically one guy who is a "contact" machine in Hiura. DS is going to have to really figure out the plan with Braun and at 2nd base next season. Ideally the best thing for the Brewers to do may be to bring Sogard and Walker back. Eduardo Nunez is an intriguing pending FA or I would look at Dee Gordon on the trade front. Miami is looking to shed payroll so you may be able to get him cheaper than normal. He could slide right into that leadoff role too.

Braun is definitely showing signs of age. He used to be one of the best bad-pitch hitters I've ever seen. I remember Yount compared him to Edgar Martinez in pure hit tool. Still, it should be more even decline across situations. You can maybe expect some discrepancy because teams bring in some of their better relievers with RISP, but he's at a .176 BABIP with RISP. That's absurd bad luck.

I'm not sold at all on Thames or Aguilar. They're basically a platoon version of Chris Carter in my book. If it's an option, I would pseudo-platoon Walker and Braun there next year. I'd keep Sogard, but I'd give Villar a chance to reclaim some value as well. Phillips and Brinson would be starters. Braun and Perez would be back-up outfielders. If they don't get anything for Broxton, he could have a spot as well. The versatility of that roster would be pretty awesome.
