Buehler Comes in to Close
Wow! Roberts is actually doing something I was hoping to see tonight on top of playing a lineup I've been advocating for previously. Buehler comes in to close out the 9th inning.

Kershaw and Wood are locks.
Yu has been a disappointment for me, but he is making up tonight in SF.
Maeda to me, is done. he doesn't deserve to be in the playoff rotation.
Hill is a strong candidate, but has been wildly polarizing in terms of his ups and downs.
Ryu is streaking upward for me, that he has shown ability to pitch himself out of jam and currently sports the lowest ERA among the 4th starter candidates, and doing it while giving up more than .400 BABIP. Hill is under .250 and Maeda is around .280 BABIP each. what that tells me is that Ryu has been unlucky when the ball is put in play, nearly twice of the other competitors but able to control the damage and get out of jam more likely than the other two. I want that clutch factor in post season. but it will come down between Ryu and Hill and I would probably predict that Hill will win that job.
so with Kershaw-Wood-Yu-Hill rotation, I am not sure there will be enough room for two left over starters on the roster. one will definitely be removed. but I prefer we move Stewart and Stripling and make room for both.
Kershaw is the only lock right now with Hill pretty much assured a spot as well. While I certainly want Wood to recapture his previous fine form to deserve a spot, his lowered velocity and continued mechanical issues make him questionable for even a bullpen role in the playoffs.
I agree that Maeda pretty much took himself out of consideration, but he could still be a good option in relief. I'll further admit that Ryu has definitely earned consideration for a starting role right now, I'm still uneasy with counting on him. However, it'd be great if he can continue to ride the momentum and solidify a spot in the postseason rotation as the team certainly needs it.
Darvish is such a wildcard. On talent alone, he's a lock but the inconsistencies with his performance and mechanics on top of his mental issues of putting too much pressure on himself is doing no one any favors. At the same time, it's like we have no choice but to go with him as a starter for the playoffs.
Stripling has impressed of late as a reliever and I'd like to see Buehler get a spot in the bullpen as well. I was hoping to see Font make the postseason roster, but he's pretty much blown his chances at this point.
Right now, I'd put Dodgers playoff rotation as follows:Clayton Kershaw
Rich Hill
Yu Darvish
Hyun-Jin Ryu
I also think Walker is a lock. they had no reason to bring him up other than to get him warmed up for the post season IMO. otherwise why start his service clock? he will be one of the set up crew, unless he himself blows it.
ehhhhh f it.

Walker's indifference to opposing base-runners cost him a run tonight and he just forfeited 2B to another Giant. The kid needs to learn how to hold runners on.

Quick Recap
Good night, Neddy.
It's funny how we stop losing once Roberts decided to play players who don't suck. Granderson didn't play tonight while Barnes and **** contributed. Bellinger and Seager also showed their obvious worth.
Darvish was sharp tonight, but is it too much to hope that the coaching staff actually reached him for him to continue to live up to his talent moving forward?
Buehler also looked good tonight despite not having his best stuff by inducing a lot of weak grounders and getting a strikeout, but like I said, he needs to learn how to hold opposing runners on base.

Re: 2017 REGULAR SEASON LA Dodgers & international
We will see both Kershaw and Darvish again twice at the minimum.
Both in Philly.
Then Kershaw will close out our final series with the Giants on the 24th and Yu will open our final series with the Padres on the 25th.
But what will be interesting is that final series in Colorado.
Potential NLDS Opponent. Seemingly available slots for Kershaw and Darvish to throw and a possible competing interest of whether or not to give them more reps vs. give them rest for the playoffs.

I like the ESPN schedule because it lists the starters way out.
I think it is possible to take Maeda out of the 2 starts he is scheduled for, opening up that Colorado series for Kershaw and Darvish.

Re: 2017 REGULAR SEASON LA Dodgers & international
I think I want Kershaw and Darvish throwing in the Colorado series. If they're fantastic, it's good for their confidence. If they suck or Coors is just Coors, they'll just be anxious to take the ball the next week. Either way we won't have to worry about rust from a lay off.
We've managed Kershaw's innings enough that I'm comfortable with not needing to get him anything more than his normal 4 or 5 days rest from here on out.
Btw.
If we get a lead in this series in Washington, does anyone have a problem with throwing Walker out there for the 6th or 7th inning? I'm definitely more comfortable with Morrow sliding into that 8th inning role.

Oh and like I feared in the beginning of the year.
If we are down 2-1 going to a Game 4, my guess is Dave will go down with Kershaw on the mound on 3 days rest, not whoever we have as our #4 starter.

No, I don't really have a problem with Buehler in the 6th or 7th inning unless there're runners on base. Despite his numbers, he looks effective out there and should get better as he gains more experience. However, he seems to lack the ability to hold baserunners on, which we can't afford to have in tight games. His limited usage should also be an advantage since opposing teams will have a more limited scouting report on him until they're exposed to him more.
Morrow should most definitely be the set-up man for Jansen. Our bullpen looks pretty good now with Cingrani and Watson also options leading up to Morrow. Just pray that Roberts doesn't fool around with Baez in high-leverage situations in the postseason.

Speaking of the Bullpen
Jonah Keri, CBSsports.com (9/15/17)
Keri the 10: AL MVP May Be in Cleveland, Dodgers Silver Lining and More MLB Notes
It's tough to stay optimistic after reeling off the longest losing streak in franchise history. But the bottom line is that this Dodgers team is better than any we've seen in decades, and notably deeper than the multiple Dodgers clubs that have melted down in the playoffs the past few years. In particular, Los Angeles boasts one of the best and deepest bullpens in franchise history, a huge strength that should prevent the kind of Clayton Kershaw-is-totally-gassed-but-let's-run-him-into-the-ground mishaps that happened multiple times before Kershaw's (partial) playoff redemption in 2016.
Forget for a second that Kenley Jansen is Mariano Rivera but with more velocity, given how unhittable (and unseeable) his trademark cutter is. L.A. has assembled an army of setup men who, along with whichever of the many talented Dodgers starters don't crack the playoff rotation, should give the team a phalanx of great relief options. By advanced stats, the Dodgers have featured the best collection of relievers in the National League, by far.
This Tweet, put out during the teeth of the Dodgers' 11-game losing streak, helps tell the tale -- Watson and Cingrani were scrap-heap finds, and they too have become bullpen mainstays.
