How is "The Big Sick" so well reviewed? I watched it because I'm a big fan of Kumail but I was dozing off halfway during that movie

Did you read any of them? Usually they tell you right in the review.

Yeah, I just thought everything about it was so well done. The writing, the acting all of it was great. I've watched it three times, it's getting into that 3:10 to Yuma level for me where I will stop and watch it whenever I see it on.

Guess I'm the only one who sees what you did there.
The Inglourious Basterds was on TV last night. My favorite of all the Quincy Tarantino films.

Man. You guys need to give me a quick and dirty list of your top ten or so favorite movies. I need to know if we just have different tastes or if I slept on this stupid f*cking movie.

Been a really long time since I have thought about a top 10 list, but if I am leave out the total Sci Fi (Star Wars, Avengers, Lord of the Rings etc.) off the top of my head in no particular order
Shawshank Redemption
Saving Private Ryan
Gladiator
Fight Club
Memento
6th Sense
V for Vendetta
3:10 to Yuma
Tombstone
There will be blood
Gangs of New York
I'm sure I am missing some others, but those come to mind, and Hell or High Water is right there in the mix.

Big Trouble in Little China
Monster Squad
Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang
Casablanca
Cabin in the Woods
Ghostbusters
Se7en
Bull Durham
Haven't thought about it in a long time but those eight are likely on it. Hell or High Water could probably go on there too.

Re: 2017 TV/Movie/Book Thread with Spoilers
Ask me on ten different days, and the list will never be the identical
, maybe top 50 is easier. anyway the 10 that come to mind today (in no particular order are):
One flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest (an amazing and as close to flawless as it gets movie with fantastic performances for both main and support actors)
LotR Trilogy (grew up reading Tolkien, even my cat is named Gandalf, so that is obvious despite some flaws)
No Country for Old Men (Haunting and gripping despite it's pace and one of the top evil characters of all time)
Godfather I&II (obvious choice, but both masterpieces)
The Prestige (Pledge...Turn..Prestige. All parts perfect)
Amores Perros (I love all Iñárritu films ,this one is still my favourite)
Cidade de Deus (gripping, genuine and real , with low budget and no big names)
Shawshank Redemption (because when someone mentions the words "a good movie" it is probably the first that comes to mind)
12 Angry Men (1957, though the remake was also nice) (because sometime all you need is a room , a good plot and great acting to make a great movie)
Hero (While I don't enjoy most martial art/action/superhero Hollywood movies, I can't say the same about asian martial films. Despite a usually simple plot and the fighting, it is the choreography of the actions scenes, the beautiful colors, the historic background and the bitter sad turns that makes them more of a visual poem for me. Hero is the first that comes to mind today)
I have to stop here and post it, because I will change it 1000 times the more I look at it, and never be satisfied

I thought I was the only person in the world that loved Monster Squad. Love that movie.

Re: 2017 TV/Movie/Book Thread with Spoilers
I know only a few people made lists, but I'd just add that I'm surprised Goodfellas hasn't been mentioned (hope I didn't gloss over it somehow) yet. Just surprised in 3 or 4 people's list, who I'd assume be in the target age and overall demographic, that it didn't show up.
Resident Lillard truther since 2015.
