this really doesn't matter much if Ballmer wants to build an arena there. he can afford any lawsuits. even if the lawsuits with extended time to sue comes with a price tag of 100 million, it's not even 1% of his wealth.

but if possible, I prefer he builds his arena elsewhere than Englewood. I hate the scumbag Stan Kronke and I would not want my all time favorite NBA team to have our arena a stone throw away from Stan's. I used to love seeing the Raiders and the Clippers within a short stroll apart from each other back in the day.
ehhhhh f it.

Fans closer to the floor like OKC so it can be a better home court advantage when we aren't playing another big city team that's gonna take 1/3 of the seats.

February 26th Interview with Inglewood Mayor

Pretty much summarizes the article that I linked although I found it interesting that he said construction would start right after the EIR. This would hit my timeline of 2022 which means there is hope that the last 2 years at Staples can be bought out. Butts obviously can't say that for legal reasons but it's a possibility and a good one at that.

If you look closely, Staples Center is a horrible basketball venue. As is any other arena that houses both an NHL and NBA team. The configuration is perfectly made for hockey that when there's a basketball event, it just looks like they put a temporary basketball court in the middle of a ballroom with temporary seatings.

The corner sections aren't really angled towards the hoop since they're really facing where the hockey net is. Compare that to basketball-specific arenas like Oracle, AT&T, Spectrum (Charlotte), and Barclays. The court itself looks like it's there permanently.

Staples has that weird lighting, where the court is lit but the stands are pretty dark.

Bigger contrast than at other arenas.

It wasn't like that before the late 2000s. The whole arenas was bright until the Lakers wanted it to be like the Forum.

That's a special lighting effect that the Lakers created to emulate the lighting at the Forum. The Clippers didn't start using it until a few years ago.

Plus the three levels of suites right in-between the lower bowl and the upper deck. The upper deck is so high along with an incredibly cavernous tall ceiling we lose a lot of the fan generated noise that helps the home team in big games.

Does anyone have any updates on how the 10:30am event at the Inglewood site went today?

You never know.. they might can find a loophole and get out of the Staples lease early and start building the arena ahead of schedule

Even if there's no loophole, they can negotiate a buyout. I have a sneaky suspicion that's why Ballmer is trying to expedite the process through this bill. My thinking is this. Both AEG & Ballmer benefit from an early buyout because Ballmer can make a lot more in is own arena than AEG makes off the Clippers. From there, they merely find a number in the middle & roll with it. For example, let's say that Ballmer can make an extra $20 million from being in his own building but AEG makes $10 million off Clipper games & Ballmer's $1.5 million in rent. If they buyout for what amounts to $15 million per every season prior to the end of the lease, they both make money. Ballmer takes it because the $20 million is above the $15 million he spends in the buyout & AEG takes it since that same $15 million is more than the $10 million they lose from the Clippers not being there.
