Going Down Flailing

Post#1261 » by Ranma » Tue Sep 19, 2017 1:51 am

Unbelievable! Granderson homers in the 9th to get us within 1 run only for Seager and Grandal to strike out on literally nothing but split-fingered fastballs thrown to them. Oh, well. The game was lost on Kershaw surrendering that grand slam.

Hopefully, that home run by Granderson will get him going but he's been feast-or-famine with outs or homers more so than getting on base. At least Cingrani continues to look sharp in his improved form.

If Kershaw is struggling through the Giants and Phillies lineups, good luck with Arizona, Colorado, Chicago and Washington.

IMO...he has to pitch in Colorado, no matter what that means.
If the outcome in CO is good, take the momentum and roll with it. If it sucks...well, then you won't be rusty and use it for fuel in game 1.

In some way this is a blessing. We honestly cannot rest and relax to close the year no matter how tone deaf Dave is in trying to act like we're chillin out Max and relaxing all cool and just shooting some bball outside of the school, WE ARE fighting for HFA and to finish closing up this division.

same situation as the last night. it is the 6th, bases loaded with two outs... a right handed hitter in the heart of the order comes up... what do you do... we pulled the starter last night, but we keep the starter in with 18 more pitchers to your disposal....

you better not keep Kersh one too many inning in the post season, Dave. you are better than Donnie softballs.
ehhhhh f it.

It's weird.

I didn't question him much if it all last year.
He was hitting all the right buttons. This last month has been shocking and scary.

Maeda and Ryu Auditioning for Postseason Bullpen Role

Post#1266 » by Ranma » Tue Sep 19, 2017 10:55 pm

I've made the point that I thought Ryu had a solid case for the 4th starter role and that Wood might best serve us as a bullpen arm for the postseason, but it looks like Ryu is vying for a role as a reliever instead.

The argument in favor of Wood is that he is more of a bulldog with regards to mentality compared to Darvish, Ryu, and Maeda. I can't say that I disagree, though I still have concerns about his lowered velocity.

There is increasing support for Barnes to be the starting catcher now given Grandal's recent struggles and defensive woes. I'm certainly on board with Barnes being a starter for us in the playoffs since I've said from the moment we traded for him that he was the type of player that helps wins championships.

With that, Forsythe and Utley seem like platoon options at 2B with **** and Granderson likewise serving similar roles in LF. Apparently, A-Gon and Ethier are getting consideration for pinch-hitting roles.

Looks like Corey Seager's elbow will not let up and he's just playing through it.

I see that Ranma just posted that.

Hopefully it's not ruining at bats.

Baez Sucks and the Sky is Blue

Post#1272 » by Ranma » Wed Sep 20, 2017 2:37 am

I stepped out to make some food, so I missed Watson's outing but he bailed Darvish out of the 6th inning by getting 2 outs after Yu gave up a run and had runner(s) on base.

Then Roberts called for Baez to pitch the 7th inning with a 1-run lead only for him to give up a leadoff triple to J.P. Crawford. He then hits a batter and has runners at the corners with nobody out. Yet somehow a pop-up and Granderson's sliding catch in RF along with Crawford not tagging up at 3B gave Baez the opportunity to escape the inning without giving up a run.

Unsurprisingly, he walked the bases loaded, then walked in the tying run on 4 pitches, and gave up a bases-clearing hit to leave with a 5-2 deficit. Cingrani comes in to save his bacon from having the remaining runner on base charged to his stats line.

If this does not convince Roberts that Baez does not deserve a playoff roster spot, nothing will. I don't care if Baez can throw a 95-mph fastball if he's unable to control it and afraid of throwing other types of pitches. He does more to scare Dodger fans than he does the opposition.

The idea of Baez being Roberts' illegitimate son getting opportunities through nepotism a la the other Doc in L.A. is making more sense since there is no reasonable explanation for him to continue to get these opportunities.

Good thing I'm on a flight and missed this all.

I'd be losing my **** knowing Dave put this idiot out there in a high leverage situation again.

I'll say it ONE MORE TIME:
This is on the front office. Sometimes you have to take a manager or coach's bullets away from him. You have to trade Jamal Crawford, Pedro Baez etc. etc. so the coach/ manager DOES NOT SEE THAT PERSON AS AN OPTION!

I am NOT sympathetic to him having a good start to the year and things going poorly. I've wanted this idiot traded since the last out of the NLCS and we're still here on a **** FIVE YEAR EXPERIMENT to try and make him an elite high leverage reliever.

GET OVER IT! IT'S NOT GONNA HAPPEN

Dammit wtf!

**** am I thinking you guys?

Dave Roberts in 2019:
Herp derp. We believe in Pedro Baez. The stuff is there. The velocity. He just needs some depth on his sliders and he can be elite.

Herp derp herpity **** derp!

Just LMAO!

I'm okay with him continuing to work in the off-season, but his leash has to be shortened at this point. He needs to develop off-speed pitches and trust them enough to actually use them. I agree with you that I'd be more inclined to deal him just so Roberts can't use him. We have Yaisel Sierra, who has a similar profile and likely more hope for improvement.

Well, not sure about sacrificing momentum to make a point about Baez, especially with how bad a run we'd had leading up to clenching...
But if this is what it took to get a winning rotation, so be it...

I just keep hoping all this disjointed play and struggles is directly related to tweaking for the post season... Not sure I believe that, but that's my hope. This team was a machine most of the season... It can't all be gone right?
