Bernthal is criminally good in everything I've seen him in.

****. I forgot about Take Shelter. That could easily be in my top 10.

Brick is the first piece of media I show people when they want to know what I like.

How about 'Momento'?

Also, True Romance is underrated in my opinion. Written by Tarantino but not directed. Like the last good Christian Slater movie (although 'Gleaming the Cube' comes close... ;) ). That dude is due for an acting renaissance.

My 10 favorite movies of the 2010s so far:

The Social Network
Manchester By the Sea
The Tree of Life
Drive
Mad Max: Fury Road
Beasts of the Southern Wild
Inside Llewyn Davis
Nightcrawler
Birdman
Les Miserables

If going back 10 years instead of just since 2010, I'd have to make room for these movies:

The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford
There Will Be Blood
No Country For Old Men
Wall•E
The Fantastic Mr. Fox
The Road

Damn some slow depressing movies on that list, are you ok?

I do definitely have a thing for slow burs and character driven stories, and I do like my humor dark ("In Bruges"). I'm less of a stickler for plot, though of course I think a great film can kind of check any variety of boxes and not have to be one thing. I think only a few of those are really depressing , though. Even something like "Manchester by the Sea" has a lot of humor in it.

If you think Manchester By the Sea is a comedy, you might like your movies a wee bit dark.

Go see Wind River. Great movie. Slow burn for days. Dark as hell.

I never said it was a comedy - just that there is a lot of humor in it. "Wind River" is one of my favorite movies of the year so far, definitely.

Anyone else notice this as well? I can't have a fan on while watching this, otherwise I'd be blasting it.

Can't wait for this one - "The Fantastic Mr. Fox" is one of my favorite animated films of the last 10 years (is that another opportunity for a top 10?)

Since I was 10 I've had a soft spot for good war movies, especially anything to do with sea. Das Boot, Master & Commander, Band of Brothers, Tora-Tora-Tora, The Enemy Below are some all time favourites.

Same for sports movies, I love a good one like Hoosiers, Miracle etc. If by some grand omission you haven't seen Slapshot, please invest 2 mins of your time and let me introduce you to the Hanson brothers:

Other than that I like pretty much anything by the Cohen Brothers. Fargo tops the list, both movie and the first 2 seasons of the series, I found the 3rd one a little meh. Same for Tom Hanks, I liked most his movies (combine this with my love for war movies and I got a double kick out of Saving Private Ryan)

Other than that movies are a like bit like basketball, you get some hidden and not so hidden gems from Europe. Snatch, Lock stock and two smoking barrels, and of course Trainspotting based on on of Irvine Welsh's books (must read: Filth). Greek movies: I wish there was a properly translated copy of Valkanizater, which is basically a hilarious and super-real road trip through the Balkans and into Europe proper (Switzerland). It tells you most of what you need to know about Greeks and neighbours, but it would be hard to catch all the references to local history, the fall of communism, football, immigration etc. A good substitute intro to Greek culture was My Big Fat Greek wedding, that was pretty funny and real as well.

As most Greeks I also like theatre and theatrical adaptations. I know most people don't have much patience for them, but if you're ever in the mood don't miss Glengarry Glen Ross based on a screenplay by Mamet. Just check out the cast: Al Pacino, Kevin Spacey, Alec Baldwin, Ed Harris, Jack Lemmon, Alan Arkin. **** brilliant.

Obligatory mention to Aussie cinema: Kenny. You might need subtitles but trust me man, if you figure out what's going on you're gonna love that movie :D

Mafia movies are also awesome, I'm not gonna mention anything because I think I liked them all.

Tonnes of others but I'll stop here or I'll be writing volumes :D

I think the only genres I couldn't get into no matter what are Marvel comics and anything to do with Medieval Europe, Old English tales (yeah including Tolkin). I love a good Action/Adventure like anyone but for me it has to have a true historical context to really grab me, like the Last of the Mohicans, Braveheart, The Revenant, Gladiator, Zulu, and ofcourse the masterpiece below. Gents, if you haven't watched Apocalypto, please plug in your headphones:

By the way Apocalypto had a $50m budget, it's worth watching just for the attention that went into the costumes and make up (never mind the brilliant story telling and directing)

Is it just my or is AHS really blah? I couldn't even get through Roenoke and while I like the clowns it really seems flat and lacking any real surprise or substance.

Trying way too hard and it's not even remotely scary. I miss Jessica Lange

Surprisingly I liked the carnival one and the hotel. But yeah, it's been a general decline...it's run its course and then some.

Has Black Mirror been discussed? I loved most of the episodes...I'd have to recap the episodes and know which ones were what...but just real quick seeing if people had seen it/thoughts.

Whatever the New Orleans season was called, I thought it was good. Haven't gotten into it since.
