Dudley admitted to Wojnarowski that the Clippers lied to him when he cited a team saying it wouldn't trade him only to trade him afterwards. He also owned up to not being mentally ready to contribute to the Clippers due to dealing with his injury during his time with the Clips, but we all know that was Doc's fault. He goes on to say that he felt the Clippers were lacking in camaraderie, which he felt was essential to building chemistry for teams to succeed and grind through the rough spots of a season. He also goes on to say that Doc is a good coach, but his GM abilities is another conversation.
He calls Larry Brown the toughest coach he's ever played for due to how detailed he was in assessing the strengths and weaknesses of his players. He respected Brown because he didn't play politics where he didn't care how high a player was drafted but rather how that player could help his team win.

Re: Jared Dudley on Woj Podcast
Dudley keeps giving fuel to my suspicion that Doc paid too much [a FRP, albeit heavily protected] to kick his sorry ass to the curb not because he sucked [though he did], but because he had become a cancer.
[Same with Lance, methinks.]

Re: Jared Dudley on Woj Podcast
There was really no indication Dudley was anything close to a "cancer" on that team, not even a problem in any way. Lance also didn't seem to be an issue, but Doc and Lance just weren't on the same page. Doc promising players certain things that the roster can't fulfill is not new, it happened each of his first three seasons, and at this stage, there are just too many examples for us to dismiss all of them. Clearly, it's part of his way of attracting guys to the team and motivating guys, but maybe that's also part of why the team felt the GM/coach roles needed to be separated.
The Dudley move was made in order to clear cap space due to some cap miscalculations/mishaps. Dudley was a failed attempt that could have worked if it was a different year, but of course, some of the things that followed made it worse. Ah well, you live and you learn, he seems to respect Doc as a coach, called him good, even quoted him as part of the things he would say/use if he is coaching in the future.

Re: Jared Dudley on Woj Podcast
It's admittedly a pet theory, a suspicion, that Dudley was talking s*** behind the scenes. As for Lance, he pulled a stunt in February where, after finally getting some PT again, was clapping his hands when he didn't get the ball. [As you know, his defense also falls off when he's acting out.] Said to meself, he's outta here, just like the other Knucklehead Twin, Josh Smith.
And within a week or two, he was.

Re: Jared Dudley on Woj Podcast
What would he have been saying though, and why? There's not even any "sources" or media speculation about anything like that, and he was playing injured most of that season that even he himself said that he sucked, lol
The timeline just doesn't support any idea that he was traded because of him being a cancer. If the Clippers had determined they wanted to trade him, they would have done it much sooner, but he wasn't traded until the team started making moves and realized they wouldn't have sufficient cap space and didn't do a good job cap planning. Dudley was traded August 26th, if you had planned the whole off-season to trade him, and all you could find was a salary dump where you give up a 1st round pick, you're a terrible GM. Even if you were trading him for that reason, there are zero reasons to make a hasty trade, you can take your time and move him, so it just doesn't ft.
Now if you are making an almost panic trade in order to fill out the rest of your roster and avoid hard cap penalties, then it makes sense that you make such a poor trade when Dudley was a player you could very easily trade for a 2nd round pick if all you wanted to do was clear cap space.

Re: Jared Dudley on Woj Podcast
I don't think Dudley was dumpable without giving up a pick as a sweetener. We will never know. He sucked, was coming off injury, and was owed another $8.5M. And I'm also not that exercised about the FRP, which the Bucks also treated like the garbage pick it was.
Bucks trade Clippers '17 first-rounder, Norman Powell for Raptors' Greivis Vasquez
[The Clips also got a 2nd-rounder back from the Bucks. Garbage in, garbage out.]
And hey, I could be wrong. Admittedly Jared being a cancer is a pet theory, meaning there is no proof but I wouldn't expect there to be, since Doc has never talked dirt on anyone—even including the Knucklehead Twins, whose unprofessionalism was inexcusable—and the Clipper players have also been very classy about not airing dirty team laundry after the fact.
But as we see, Dudley has an opinion about everything and never shuts up.
Hence my pet theory, that Doc wanted him and his mouth out before camp, and besides, he needed the money to get some bodies in. Had he managed to slip Joe Ingles past the Jazz on waivers, the whole plan would be deemed a success. Even still, getting rid of Dudley was arguably addition by subtraction, since his deal had another 2 years to run and the money was still freed up.

Re: Jared Dudley on Woj Podcast
oh I miss me some Larry Brown. remember him on the sidelines of the old Sports Arena, taking our early 90s teams to back to back playoffs. we took the eventual champions, Hakeem led Houston Rockets to the decisive game 5 (first round was only 5 games back then) in the first round... I still remember the chill I felt at the arena in game 4 when Stanley Roberts dunked on Hakeem. Larry had a lot of issues in his coaching career, but he was the best coach I have ever known.
ehhhhh f it.

And they should go back to best-of-five in the first round since Silver is worried about the lack of parity.

Re: Jared Dudley on Woj Podcast
I'm tired of hearing Jared Dudley talk crap about his Clippers stint. For all the lack of camaraderie, wrong medical diagnostics and awful coaching poor Jared had to endure, he's never been on a team that's won more games than those 57 win Clippers. Some of you might remember how I was pretty much the last one here defending him when he was playing awfully, and I still think his trade is the single worst decision any contender's made in a long time. But please Jared, just shut the f*ck up already, move on and stop making excuses for wasting the best opportunity of your career.
