Boban for Okafor

Post#1 » by sfballa13 » Fri Sep 22, 2017 12:02 am

Boban is 29, can barely play more than 15-18 minutes a game and only against certain match ups

Okafor is 21, had some behavior and fitting in issues in Philly, put up 12/5 but most importantly played 23 minutes a game

Boban makes 7M, Okafor makes 5M - so we even save 2M

Take a chance on Okafor as Drummond's back up, use the 2M to sign a min vet center

I'd have some interest in a reclamation project with Jah. Trade Boban and a top 20 protected first (that becomes two seconds in two years) for Jah, and hope we can rehab him enough getting all the Ce back-up minutes behind Dre to flip him for a long term PF.

You don't want this guy with a Pistons jersey man

1 - who knows what Philly could get for him as his value is hard to gauge

2 - if we're interested you'd have to assume that he's not just going to be the back up C - he'd be logging minutes at PF too

Signing guys like Bobo for a specific role is a lot different to trading for a guy to play that role.

In a ideal world you acquire guys via trade to fill a role AND because they have upside to become more.

Unless Okafor is developing his game away from the hoop I'm not interested in him at all, regardless of price.

We need guys that can pass, read the D quickly and move around the floor.

I wanna see our bigs step out to 15 feet, drawing their man away from the rim so it allows guys like RJ, AB, SJ & Tobias to attack the paint.

Can't do that with Dre & Okafor camped in the lane cause you're asking our perimeter players to drive into a ambush

Okafor isn't a 4 and isn't going to be content as a backup. I'm not completely soured on him yet, but low post bigs that don't play defense aren't exactly the way the league is going now. There is a reason he hasn't gotten ton of interest on the trade market.

He just not the right fit and I think Philly could get a lot more for him.

I don't think there is a sure starting role for him anywhere in the league. I think it's easier for him to accept coming off the bench with a team other than Philly where he was a very high pick and once treated as the future of the franchise. Sell him on coming here and rehabbing his image and play and tell him we'd trade him into a starting situation for the right return as soon as it presented itself.

I'd do it. The upside alone makes it a no brainer IMO (and makes me doubt Philly would consider it).

I think we are going to have major problems getting scoring out of our second unit and Okafor would go a long way towards solving that. He also gives us a real option should a beneficial trade for Dre come up.

Sure why not. Boban probably cant play more than 15-20 minutes a game in the NBA. At least Okafor can be a spot starter if need be.

Noel is and was a better player and look what the Sixers got in a trade for him, at the deadline no less

Pistons should jump on this now

That's the only way this trade makes sense for Philly.

Yeah that's pretty bad. I would probably give him a shot if it was cheap enough but that's also just from remembering his Duke days where he was a dominant low post scorer. He's probably nothing but a soft bust in reality though.

Yeah no thanks. I wouldn't take Okafor for free and we already have someone that plays with as much heart as he does in Drummond.

Okafor would work in San Antonio where Pop would push him and develop him. In Detroit, he would sit and rot. Right now the guy is a smaller Al Jefferson with James Harden-esque defense.

No thanks. I hope he makes it to the Spurs or somewhere else where he can reclaim his career.
