If this was true nobody would go in Nba from Euroleague. Bogdanovic has gotten 35 million because he’s worse than bench players in Nba? Come on. Saric was nowhere near the best Euroleague players and now is second best rookie in Nba. Doncic is not among the best Euroleague players and he’s in conversation for #1 pick. Huston offered incredible deal to Llull, because he’s worse than bench players? You can hate Euroleague, but just try to use logic. Why will Nba teams give someone 10 mio per year if they can get better players for 3 mio?
And Reaminator is objective? Just read his last 10 posts.;)

This thread is not about if Doncic is better prospect than Lebron, Bird or MJ. But if he’s better than Porter, Beagley &.co. And if this is really that incredible, I would expect some more evidence than just, they have higher ceiling because they are more athletic. Because Doncic showed some real evidence in this Eurobasket, against Nba players.

Well, off course there are players who outgrow the competition and become NBA caliber. It is also worth to note that talent doesn't translate linearly, something that I always say. You can find examples where good Euroleague players becomes good NBA players as well, but there also dozen of examples where Euroleague stars go to the NBA, but become bench players at best... Now at least wait how Bogdanovic does before using him as an example, Vlade did offered him a big contract, but that doesn't prove jack so far.

I also do believe that Doncic will most definitely gonna be one of the best players in the Euroleague this upcoming year.

You said,”a lot of bench players are better than the best Euroleague players.”

I have to say this is really sad :( and totally untrue. But shows how unfair prospects from Europe are threatened here.

Btw. If Doncic will really be one of the best Euroleague players this year. He will still be, in your words, worse than most of Nba bench players. I guess second round, pick # 47 will be appropriate.
Slovenia who has won Spain by 20, had only 1 Nba player, 2 Euroleague players and all the other are playing in second or third tear competition in Europe. Spain has half of the team playing in Nba and they’re mostly not bench players.

Its an interesting but slippery debate, because you can compare two very same players, and one of them can be better player in the NBA, while the other can be better in Euroleague. Rubio and Rodriguez for example. If you put most Euroleague stars in NBA, a lot of them would suck and wouldn't be better than NBA bench players, I can guarantee you that. NBA structures their rosters with NBA proven players, while Euroleague super clubs sign proven Euroleague players.

But lets just name few Euroleague stars and lets try to answer would they be better than average NBA bench player. Shane Larkin and Ekpe Udoh were very good in Euroleague, and I bet they will be average players in the NBA yet again, wouldn't be surprised if they out of the league again after few years. Malcolm Delaney was all Euroleague player, he is third stringer now, fact.

Would Paulius Jankunas, Brad Wannamaker, Nikolo Melli, Georgios Printezis, Thomas Huertel, Keith Langford be better than average bench player in the NBA right now? Maybe few of them have potential to be, but most of them would not. Thats just a sad true.

A team of NBA bench players would destroy an all Euroleague team. For me this is not even a debate. Probably NBA could put together 5 teams of bench players and they would all be better than EL team.

You would need intelligent selection, as not all NBA rotation players are that great, but this is pretty much true.
Imagine starting lineup of :

Mattew Dellavedova
Marco Bellineli
C.J. Miles
Derrick Williams
Brandon Wright

Instant Euroleague favorites.

I seriously doubt that. We have all seen what happened when USA came in Fiba competition with B team, not bench players. But we weren’t talking about teams but individual players. Statement was not about teams, it was said, mostly of the bench players are better than the best Euroleague players. That means, Bogdanovic and Llull are worse than 6th, 7th, 8th, 9th man of all teams in Nba. Really?
And if they’re really that bad, why they’re offering to them 10 mio per year?

Only problem is that you claimed, a lot of bench players are better than the best Euroleague players. ;) And original claim by your friend Reanimator was, “NBA backups are better than the best Euroleague players.” All Nba backups are better than Bogdanovic and Llull? Really?

Wait and what would they do to high school teams or college teams that other prospects play. Haha

And Huertel always starts to struggle every time the playoffs start, because in more intense physicality and defense, that kind of game does not work as well. I think Dragic would be Heurtel with a worse jumper.

This thread truly is pure comedy gold. The whole summer long some posters like Mirotic and Bob were vehemently arguing that Dragic just can’t play FIBA basketball and how he’s not any better than an avarage Euro player like Thomas Heuertel. A good month later Dragic sits atop of Europe as a champion and an MVP.

Now how can you take seriously anything some in this thread have to say about Doncic or European basketball in general, when they were absolutely abysmal at evaluating an existing Euro-NBA player. It’s quite obvious that some here don’t even watch NBA basketball and thus can’t be taken seriously when they talk about players who play there.

Doncic had an excellent tournament and his draft stock is rising rapidly. But he also played next to an MVP who drew a whole lot of defensive attention and gave Doncic plenty of space to operate. Slovenia played great ball, but looking at some game film, it was a lot of Dragic making really tough shots from all over the court even when defense did a great job against him. He was definitely on another level. That’s a level you just don’t see in Europe and that’s a level Doncic saw on court for the first time when he played with Dragic.

But that’s also a level you see at almost every NBA game during the season. That’s the main point here. The 10 best EuroBasket scorers are all current NBA players or were NBA players in Shved’s and Shengelia’s case.

What we can say for certain about Doncic is that he’s probably the only player in the next draft class who’s pretty much bust-proof. He’ll be good, how good is anyone’s guess. There’re still areas he has to improve in if he wants to become an efficient NBA player. But he does too many things too well not to be at the very least a very good starter or a borderline All-Star. Projecting Doncic is just so incredibly tough because we really can’t compare him to anyone, in Europe or the States. He really is an incredibly unique player. A lot depends on who will draft him and how they will use him.

Big problem with Dragic was his inconsistent jumper. He obviously improved it in the NBA, and that allowed him to dominate FIBA this year. Combination of speed and skill is at the level guys like Diamantidis, Llull and Spanoulis could only dream off. Some posters here put all their relevance onto Euroleague, yet none to the NBA, which is just dumb. How can you look at a guy who can shoot and efficiently scores 20 points in the NBA and claim he is worse than Spanoulis or Diamantidis. You are just a clown at this point.

Like mentioned above, the main thing with Doncic is that his floor seems extremly high. Once his body fully develops, i think it's hard of him being worse than say Gordon Hayward with better passing and probably better rebounding. I mean that's a really really high floor, and basically a surefire max player.

It's hard to say the same thing for the other prospects when they play just in the NCAA, not to mention some like Porter will just put up empty stats that can't be translated.

This year Doncic should have an even larger role in Real. We will see what happens, but i would be shocked if he is not a top 3 pick

I feel like majority of these NBA vs Euroleague debates would die down if FIBA just agreed to adopt the rules and regulations entirely. Play the same amount of minutes with same court size. Then you'd see how inferior the rest of the world really is and why it's so hard for European guards to make it in the NBA. Which is kind of the main concern people have with Doncic.
