The game ends on Puig being robbed of an extra-base hit in CF.

We actually have a game in Philadelphia tomorrow at 10 am as this is a 4-game series against the Phillies.

Question.

Why is this guy acting plum dumb about who our good players are?

Is Terry Francona trying out relievers right now to see who is ready?

LMFAO!

Stripling and Avilan

Post#1304 » by Ranma » Thu Sep 21, 2017 2:34 am

Dave supposedly has faith in Stripling, but it's clear he does not belong on the playoff roster right now. Avilan has actually pitched well, but Watson and Cingrani are the better left-handed relief options, in my opinion.

I can't really fault Roberts' calls this game even if I would have preferred Buehler over Stripling in the 8th inning.

Like Baez, that's multiple blown opportunities to hold wins for Stripling. In my view, he's out now too. The RH long role can be handled by Maeda come post season. Sept is the time to solidify your slot and these relievers are choking.

An even scarier proposition than him testing players to see if they're ready for the postseason roster.

I dont like this team the last month and it starts with the manager.

Dream season turned into the season from hell and questions about who is and isn't postseason ready.

Morning Dodger fans.

Is today a day where we need to learn something new about Ross or Baez in high leverage situations?

Do we need to give Granderson another 4 ABs because we believe "it will turn"?

Can we continue a charge towards 100 wins or will we just pile up losses in the name of "figuring out our postseason roster"?

Morning.

Walker for the Win?

Post#1308 » by Ranma » Thu Sep 21, 2017 7:50 pm

Missed the first 6 innings of the game, but apparently Walker Buehler is in line for his first MLB win today. He pitched 1 inning, gave up no hits, struck out 2, and walked 1. Not bad, rook.

The silver lining is that the question marks of our postseason roster have mostly been answered. Now it's a matter of following through in playing the best players and seeing maybe what a handful of players have to show us in auditioning for the playoffs.

I wholeheartedly agree with you about throwing away our chance at history and sacrificing momentum just for the sake of confirming what we already know about players who don't deserve to play in October.

Funny how you win games when you don't need to test and see if a chitty pitcher is playoff ready and just play the guys that you know are good.

Bravo Dave.

3 more wins to a 100 win season.

I don't think think this trend will suddenly fix itself in the post season. of course I only want Pedro in a very low leverage situation, but as of right now he is the better reliever than walker despite what I posted before about whom I think the Dodgers' front office will choose.

Walker has actually pitched better than his numbers suggest. He's had a very limited sample size and even gave up an earned run, which would have been prevented if he had shown any inclination to keep a base-runner from advancing.

At the same time, his inexperience is obviously a negative not in Buehler's favor, but at least he has the promise of improvement while Baez is who he is at this point. Maybe Stewart's experience and aggressive approach is a better option than either of them for a postseason roster spot.

I want to see Walker show us what he's capable of, which is the problem with giving Baez all these opportunities. He's answering a question we already knew the answer to while there are still unknowns in Buehler's ability to handle MLB batters.

Buehler has only pitched 4.1 innings over 4 games with a 12.46 ERA but he's also struck out 6 batters. If you take out his worst outing against the Rockies on 9/10 from the calculations where he gave up 4 earned runs, 2 walks, and 2 hits in 1/3 of an inning, his WHIP would go from 2.08 to 1.67 while his ERA would be 4.50 instead of 12.46 while still striking out 5 batters over 4 innings and that includes the run scored with his nonchalant approach to holding runners on, otherwise, his ERA would be 2.25. Obviously, that involves mathematical gymnastics, but the point is that Buehler wasn't that far removed from the adjusted numbers. The kid certainly has room for improvement and seems to be getting better.

I dunno man.
I know that our president of baseball operation is trying to repeat his success he's had in Tampa with David Price, but other than the fact that they both went to the same college, they are not the same type of pitchers. with Trevor Miller sucking and Scott Kazmir starting, only effective lefty out of pen was our old friend JP Howell. they needed David Price to be the other lefty for the playoff run. Walker is not a lefty. our situation is different. Walker is just not a reliever in my eyes. he seems to be one of those guys who have a slow start. his GB/FB ratio when nobody is on base is 6.0. when runners on base, it drops to 3. with runners on scoring position, it is down to 1. it is, for right now, isn't very clutch. that is not a trait you want from a potential high leverage reliever going into the post season with WS aspirations. compared to that, David Price did much better.
not saying Walker is a bad pitcher, because he is a great prospect and a future anchor of the rotation. just saying as of right now, I don't think he is as ready as Urias was at the end of last season.
maybe there is a room for him tho, that our bullpen, despite their hiccups as of late, is better than the last season's. Jansen is the same Kenley, but Morrow > Blanton, Grant Dayton was a lightening in a bottle that never was, Baez, Avilan, Fields all played important role and Ross also made it. this year we are talking about Baez and Ross being on the bubble with Tony Watson, Luis Avilan, and Josh Fields on the mix with Ryu and Maeda probably coming out of the pen too. we are better. maybe we could sneak in a shaky rook, but I prefer not.
ehhhhh f it.

Team Ranma on Buehler.

I'm at the stadium tonight for the clincher.

Re: Barnes More Solution Than Problem

Ranma wrote:Barnes was far from the problem tonight. Wood gave up runs in the 2nd inning like he normally does regardless of who his catcher is. Stripling served a hanging slider curve ball that lost us the lead and Avilan's errant throw gave the Phillies the lead.

Barnes, on the other hand, got a hit, walked, stole a base, and even scored a game-tying run with his second effort on a blocked plate. Grandal struck out with Barnes watching from 3B.

Bat bat bat bat.

Put him at 2nd.
Grandal is my catcher until further notice.

More Like Forsythe vs. Grandal

Barnes is the better bat right now and has the better offensive statistics for the season. He's also the better catcher. The choice really isn't between Barnes and Grandal but rather Grandal and Forsythe. With both Yasmani and Logan struggling, it's a somewhat close consideration but Forsythe is the better defender.

Disagree.
Fools rush in.

Feels good to be back in the stadium brehs.

Been a couple year since I've been here. Def one of the premiere venues in the game.
