My thoughts on the Trade below:

Melo was indeed a terrific addition for NY, but all the side stuff wore on people I believe. The same was the case in Denver and in Indiana for Paul George or OKC with Durant.

It wasn't the deal everyone was clamoring for, but it was a good deal in terms of what smart GMs do and we haven't had a smart deal in awhile.

    • We DIDN'T add long-term salary: check!
    • We got a pick (this HIGH second will also NOT add long-term salary: check!
    • We got serviceable role players, who are STILL young, on good deals, and won't interfere with our core: check!

In the past, our management would likely have GIVEN a pick in the deal just to dump the salary. :nonono:

I want the team to improve and if they are improving while taking losses so be it. I'm not rooting for losses. These guys are young and want to prove they can be something and I'm hoping they get some w's which will show they are something.

Don't care how bad his D is. He is an elite bench scorer. You speaking as if that's not a fact.

so kanter hogging the ball in the post off the bench is going to benefit the youth? all he does is take minutes away from whg who actually has potential. you're acting as if he's an asset but the only reason he's here is for the contracts to match with the hope that he opts out after this season. you won't be singing this song after a full season with this bum on our team and then deciding to opt in.

Need can play Pf or C. There will be more than enough minutes. Kp will need rest too. Even if he opts in. It's 17 million compared to melo's 28 million opt in. You do the math. Plus he's just turn 25. Go look at him working on his game with Brickley and calm yourself.

OKC should be an interesting case study now. They essentially tripled down on iso-ball. Don't get me wrong, they have top heavy talent, I'm genuinely curious how they'll mesh.

McDermott at least can space the floor. Beasley is istnant offense from bench. Yeah. It's better to give more minutes to McBuckets

That literally means nothing.

it actually does. most of us had came to terms on what melo's value is. t-ferg doesn't even have that much value. he was picked 21st overall. so yeah, it means something.

fans don't make trades, so yes, it literally means nothing.

He's right though. This is just as much addition by subtraction as anything else. We are rebuilding now, and we didn't take on any long term deals. I know you wanted some good assets, but there is a reason we heard names like Ryan Anderson and Moe Harkless. He was NEVER fetching a first rounder (some here even said they wanted the BK pick which makes my head spin). Hell to be honest I am surprised we got that Chicago 2nd, I didn't think any pick would be involved, let alone a top 35 pick.

we could've done better man. the least we could've done is get t-ferg. most of this board was expecting to get him. those were the expectations

the expectations on this board are far different then expectations in the real world. you guys were all trippin. people are still looking for a 3rd team.

No, it actually doesn't, since people on this message board have no concept of what Melo or Ferguson's actual value is. You have nothing but bias and speculation to go off of, not actionable NBA intel.

So because a bunch of people on this board thought Melo's value should warrant the Nets pick, does that make it true?

Go ask Houston fans how well message board perception matches up with reality.

ok bro
if you're content with us getting fleeced almost every time we do a trade.. do you

2nd round pick nothing that valueable but I'm sure the draft day real gm experts will have fun telling everyone who we should take

It's going to probably be the 31st or 32nd pick in the draft. Some recent second round picks this decade:

2010 - Whiteside (33), Stephenson (40)

2011 - Bogdanovic (31), Parsons (38), Isaiah (60)

2012 - Crowder (34), Draymond (35), Middleton (39), Will Barton (40), KOQ (49),

2013 - Crabbe (31), Abrines (who people wanted in this deal, 32),

2014 - Jokic (41), Clarkson (46)

2015 - Willy (35), Richardson (40), Powell (46),

2016 - Brogdon (36)

The pick is HARDLY nothing.

Yea it is 3 picks out that whole list are actually worth something look dude be as happy as you wanna be over that pick but me personally don't not expecting anything

...you don't follow the league that closely I guess

This doesn't mean much but yesterday after the press conference while I was at work an MSG sales rep called and basically begged me to buy tickets it's almost like they knew Melo was about to be gone and wanted to cash in while they could
