lol your nuts. They were a 6th seed with Russy, Oladipo, and Sabonis.

They just changed Oladipo and Sabonis into PG13 and Melo...they are easily top 3 if not the 2nd best right now.

They're not better than Golden St, Houston or San Antonio. Utah, LAC and Minnesota are equivalent.

Looking forward to Melo's jersey being hung up on the rafters of MSG

Melo was to the Knicks the last 4 seasons what Mitch Richmond was to the Sacramento Kings during the 90's

They have better players. George and Melo are probably the two most overrated players in basketball besides COusins.

I don't think his number will get retired nor should it.

How can you type that with conviction? Because they have 3 big names?

The meshing of 3 iso-ballers will be fun/interesting to watch. But with their depth? Top 3 is pushing it...

Hopefully he can find some success moving forward. I do believe that his rep was mostly due to being a knick and stuck in a crappy team.

They don't want to do that.
As I said before, Knick fans deserve garbage teams.

We can move forward with our youth and tanking. Props to melo for opening up his teams and not screwing us into taking anderson contract.

GL melo hope you get a chip with Russy and PG13

I agree with most of this. Had a couple highlights here. 54 win - Bulls Game - 62 games. ect. The Knicks FO failed Melo and much as Melo failed the Knicks. Just was time to move on. Didn't take on a horrible contract. Didnt screw us going forward. I think people should thank him for opening teams or we would be stuck with Melo or Anderson right now. Glad he allowed us to move on and not hurt our situation.

Melo got everything he wanted from this franchise. He should be grateful to it not vice versa. Knicks gave up good players, draft picks, and over 100 million dollars for him then traded him to a team with two all nba players. What more could Melo have asked for from the Knicks?
My eyes glaze over when reading alternative stat (not advanced stat) narratives that go many paragraphs long. If you can not make your point in 2 paragraphs it may not be a great point. :D

Liked Melo and will continue to support him, but cant say I really feel sorry for him because he put himself in this mess. Really shouldve just waited until the off-season to sign with us. I understand everything with the lockout, but it still hurt us. We still were able to rebuild a team after all that but could never build a proper team around him during his prime years. People hate bringing this topic up, but its valid. Shouldve played his year out in Denver.

But seriously, Amare falling apart and the lack of a good steady PG were the biggest reasons we werent able to succeed consistently. Amare quickly got injured, and we never found a true 2nd option to put next to Melo. We were relying on the likes of Jr Smith and even Shumpert on some nights to try and be a 2nd option. Irrational fans kept trying to compare Melo to LeBron knowing damn well Melo isnt anywhere near the player or playmaker LeBron was/is. Melo needed a consistent scoring option next to him and a playmaker. And as a organization they did fail him in that regard.

Melo still had a solid all-around season just 2 years ago. The 8 boards and 4 assists per game were pretty solid, but this past year he just took a step back and the defense was horrendous.

I do think Melo will be very successful in OKC though. Its really a perfect fit if executed correctly. Can be the the 2nd or even 3rd option on most nights. He should get way more catch and shoot opportunities playing next to Westbrook. And I do expect his efficiency to go way up. If OKC can get a DPOY performance from Steven Adams, they can get very far in the West.

At this point I'm not going to miss the guy being here in any way, but that period back in the winter of 2011 when his acquisition went down? The MSG commercials (greatest sports ad spot ever for my taste as a Knicks fan), the I'm Coming Home montages, and then that first game? Damn. That was a truly epic moment in time in my lifetime as a Knicks fan.

You said decades, no?! :dontknow:

Melo was indeed a terrific addition for NY, but all the side stuff wore on people I believe. The same was the case in Denver and in Indiana for Paul George or OKC with Durant.

It wasn't the deal everyone was clamoring for, but it was a good deal in terms of what smart GMs do and we haven't had a smart deal in awhile.

    • We DIDN'T add long-term salary: check!
    • We got a pick (this HIGH second will also NOT add long-term salary: check!
    • We got serviceable role players, who are STILL young, on good deals, and won't interfere with our core: check!

In the past, our management would likely have GIVEN a pick in the deal just to dump the salary. :nonono:

--Mags

I still don't like this deal but whatever. He's gone so all the haters should be happy.
Watch him ball with a real team.
I'm ready for my top 3 pick.

Where he's the no. 3 option. Exactly.

STUPID trade. You trade your alpha when we are stuck with Bichtaps Bichzingis as the top player? He isn't good enough or ready to lead this team.
