Welcome Douggie McBuckets!
Honestly, I'm not pleased with the trade. I wanted, in addition to this package, one of Abrines, T-Ferg, or a first (I was also interested in Huestis), but it is what it is. (This is way better than the Rockets' garbage offers.)
That said, I am interested in seeing what McBuckets will do here. He's not a good defender by any stretch, but he tries. I think we can see some fun stretches with KP at the 5 and Douggie at the 4. He moves well without the ball and can shoot from well beyond three - he's well more than just a shooter because of his scoring versatility.
Anyways, welcome to NY!

Fact is no 1 was willing to give up anything of significant value for Melo. This was the best offer available and the Knicks wanted Melo gone. Be happy we ain't getting Ryan Anderson for 3 years.

Looking forward to when McDermott has that one game where he scores 7 points and we can get a highlight mix with this song.

Well at least it's not a "Welcome Rhyno!" thread. So that's a positive isn't it?

Melo was indeed a terrific addition for NY, but all the side stuff wore on people I believe. The same was the case in Denver and in Indiana for Paul George or OKC with Durant.
It wasn't the deal everyone was clamoring for, but it was a good deal in terms of what smart GMs do and we haven't had a smart deal in awhile.• We DIDN'T add long-term salary: check!
• We got a pick (this HIGH second will also NOT add long-term salary: check!
• We got serviceable role players, who are STILL young, on good deals, and won't interfere with our core: check!
In the past, our management would likely have GIVEN a pick in the deal just to dump the salary.

Pretty much the same for me. I had Kanter (for salary) MCD, Ferguson and the CHI 2nd rd pick on the wishlist.
Right now, it's a B- from me. My goal was shorter Contracts / assets / prospects. We didn't add salary, got a decent asset and guy on who is kind of still a prospect. If we got Ferguson, this is an A.
On MCD, I think a lot of Knicks fans will love him. He style will fit what many have been clamoring for. I don't mind having a more athletic Novak.

Re: Welcome Douggie McBuckets!
I've always been intrigued with McBuckets. Hes more than just a catch and shoot player. Hes capable of creating his own shot, needs to work on his handle more to be able to attack the rim more consistently.
At the very least he should be replacing Lance Thomas in the lineup. Hes a capable backup SF, might even start honestly which I wont be mad at.

Yeah. Should be in the 31-35 range. You never know how we could use it.

Maybe just like Tim, we are getting Dougie at the right time in his career to make the next step. From bum to serviceable. And I'm ok with that. Even though his shot hasn't lived up to expectations, you won't leave him open. I think he can find his niche here.

I can't speak for other, but I was high on McBuckets going into his Draft year. Reddick found a niche once he got to the Clippers. Novak and Lin too once they came to us. Who knows what'll happen.
He's only 25. He shot 40% from 3 on about 3 attempts a game, and 45% from 2. He's also worked on his game this Summer:

I imagine he and Kuz will form a nice tandem.
