Come On, Yasiel
Puig ends the game trying to steal 2B without sliding and comes up a bit lame doing so.

6 straight fastballs to Joe Panik. no slider there.
did Rick Honeycutt convince him to drop his slider altogether and become a fastball/changeup guy? both of those two pitches seemed a little better than before, but he mostly threw his fastball, both to righties and lefties. I was expecting to see at least 1 slider with that last at bat.
Jeff Sullivan, FanGraphs.com (9/18/17)Cingrani’s highest-ever season slider rate was 13%. At the time of the trade at the end of July, Cingrani’s slider rate was 3%. With the Dodgers, it’s been 28%. Since the beginning of August, no pitcher in baseball has reduced his fastball rate as much as Cingrani has. Cingrani used to be mostly a one-pitch pitcher. It was one of the traits that put him on the map earlier in his career, when he was generating a bunch of strikeouts against high-level competition. Several articles were written about whether Cingrani could succeed with but one single weapon. The Dodgers are actively changing that approach. And, coincidentally, here are Cingrani’s slider strike rates, by year.2013: 48% strikes
2014: 47%
2015: 48%
2016: 47%
2017: 62%
Cingrani is now locating the hard slider more consistently, which is causing opponents to give it more respect. It’s no longer a pitch they can ignore, and maybe it’s gotten better because of the increased repetitions alone. I’m not sure, but for one reason or another, the slider is playing up.
Analysis Might Have Saved Tony Cingrani
good stuff, guess Barnes calling mostly fastballs was a tactic to fool the hitters. but I would like to see us play him well this post seaso and sell him off. streaky lefty bullpen arms that is suddenly having a great season after a trade, seems like an anomaly than the norm still. let's ride him like we rode Grant Dayton last year.

I get the logic given how volatile relief pitchers are, but I'd like to see how his stuff continues to develop under Honeycutt. He got by previously being primarily a 1-pitch pitcher and is now incorporating his slider more. You mentioned the separation between his change-up and fastball. Maybe teams will figure him out, but I like what I'm seeing from him right now and there's a chance that he could get even better given his rapid improvement over such a relatively short amount of time.

Glad Dave has some intensity and gives a damn about how we finish the season. Just wish he had that all month and not just when Low-Hanging-Fruit-Puig made a mistake.
I have 4 starters and...
Kenley
Morrow
Watson
Cingrani
Avilan
Ryu
Fields
Buehler
Is there anyone else I should be considering besides McCarthy?
I don't see Strip as high leverage....just long man if a starter gets run from the game and I'd rather have Ryu do that.
Anybody willing to go 11 pitchers/14 players since we are unsure about a number of pitchers? I cant think of a player I need pinch hitting enough to go 14 players though.

he is already 5+ years in, after next season he will be a UFA. I think I first watched him when Choo was playing for the Reds. Phillips, Votto, Choo, Frazier, Cozart, and Jay Bruce were a fun bunch to watch and back then I think Tony was a starter, then after bombing the next season he was a reliever. I honestly think my expectation of him was so low, it was not too hard to be impressed with today's performance. maybe he will continue with his growth, I dunno. but he is still only like 27 or 28 years old. if Tony Watson isn't brought back next season, I can officially call Cingrani the Tony #1.

Neddy created The 2017 POSTSEASON thread today and we both posted our 25-man rosters for the playoffs in it. I went with 11 pitchers and 14 position players. Your pitching staff seems to match mine, for the most part, but I have Maeda in for Ryu and Avilan since I have one less pitcher.

hmmmm... Maeda? and yeah I want 12 pitchers. it is easy to burn through the bullpen in a single game if a starter goes down early in a playoff game. not having to have the 5th starter gives us 8 arms in the pen, that is a huge luxury. having 5 men bench is enough unless we have specialists on the bench. but we don't have a base stealer, we don't have a defensive ace SS for late innings, and we have a very versatile bench. Austin/Grandal catching duo with **** all over the place, CT3 can play just about everywhere other than catching and 1B, and even guys like Logan and if he makes it, Kyle Farmer can play multiple positions. I do think Either makes it as a lead pinch hitter. without Gonzo and assuming Utley as the starting 2nd base, we have Austin-Kike-Logan-Farmer-Either with probable Granderson starting in LF. I don't like Curtis in the starting lineup, but the front office got him for the reason of his post season heroics.

I might have to go with 12 pitchers now given Neddy's point. Plus, I had more trouble finding solid candidates for position players than for the pitching staff.

1 game ahead of Cleveland fir best record in the MLB btw.
From dream season to possibly the 2nd best record.
I certainly hope October makes up for this last month and a half.

That was my original thought.
We'd have to put in a young unproven guy to get to 14 and I don't want Verdugo, Farmer, Dickson etc etc. on the roster.
Grandal
Barnes
Belly
Forsythe
Utley
Seager
****
Turner
Taylor
Puig
Granderson
Ethier
A-Gon
We have every box checked. C. Back up C. Back MI. Back up corner IF. Back up OFs for CF and the corners. LH pinch hitters. RH pinch hitters.
I put Granderson there because I know they will double down on their dumb move to prove a point...not because he inspires any confidence in me personally.
Hopefully that professionalism and positive locker room mumbo jumbo leads to some clutch homers from Granderson.
Speaking of clutch homers

Granderson better quit acting like he has no shoes to fill.
We actually got one of those from Young Joc when we needed it.
****, I'm so srs about not trusting Granderson, I'd actually be happy if A-Gon made the roster and we could put Cody in LF while he was at 1B. I def trust A-Gon's bat more.

Been traveling to back to WI all day so I couldn't see the game.
Was Kershaw as good as his stat line suggests?
This was very important start IMO.

F Dave. I'm done. he sided with Trump today stating that he would have issues with players kneeing in non-violent protest. I served this country, Dave didn't. and the country I served is the one that allows people to express their opposition to whatever the authority presents itself to be, regardless of it being conservative or liberal. I thought he was a good manager but he failed to prove himself to be better than Don Mattingly, and now he fails to understand what being an American means.

Dave's father was a Marine and passed away earlier this year, so his view is definitely colored by that. Still, there are veterans that understand why athletes are kneeling during the anthem in protest while still recognizing that it as not being a sign of disrespect to the country or the armed services.
Without seeing or hearing Roberts' comments, I'm disappointed in him but I understand why he would feel that way given his upbringing. It certainly doesn't help that his viewpoints are aligned with Trump's. Then again, Trump has shown that he really doesn't stand for anything outside of whatever enriches him.

I don't have anything on Connor Joe but MLBtraderumors.com says that he was traded for Sean Rodriguez last month. I assume he has defensive versatility and value because his offense sucks.
However, he is technically a former first-round pick as the 39th overall selection in the 2014 MLB Amateur Draft, so he must have or had tools. Maybe our development staff can get more out of him than the Pirates and Braves have. Also, his profile picture and ful name indicates that he is of Asian descent.

Puig was late for a workout.
He has been benched and Dave seems unhappy per Ken Gurnick's twitter.
I'd like to know the circumstances for Dave to say he's "very disappointed" in Puig. Maybe making the last out against SF in conjunction with this is too much. My guess is there is something more there.
