I've said this before.. but he needs to bulkup and become Tim Duncan vs attempting to become Kevin Durant.. otherwise he's going to end up as a Mike Dunleavyesque bust.

KD to Duncan is way too big of a difference stylistically.
I'd say KD to Dirk is far more realistic.

Re: Michael Porter Jr.
out of the elite prospects in this class would it be safe to say he's the most polarizing? I ask because I see folks either all in or all out with this kid in terms of becoming a star in the league.

I think its between him and Ayton. Ayton seems to be split down the middle on if hes going to be a bust or an elite big man. But ya I think its definitely between those 2.

I think I'm somewhere in the middle. I think he definitely has the tools to be an all-star, I just question if he has those next level offensive tools (handles, shiftiness, etc) to be a franchise changing player at #1. with guys like Durant, Giannis, Simmons, etc. you saw unusually high level ball skills, fluidity off the dribble early on. Even guys like Tatum, Ingram, Jabari, etc. I'm not so sure I see that with MPJ.

I think his body is just bad for a Ball Handler high hips,Extremely upright.
Guys like Durant,Giannis,Ingram able to get much lower than him.

If he decided to be KG or Anthony Davis he'd easily be the #1 pick. But he seems intent on being a perimeter oriented player, and I just don't see the athleticism or ball skills for it to happen.

would be hilarious if NC St hires Romar and they get another weird awful year ruining Porter's life like what happened with DSJ.
I wouldn't completely absolve DSJ from his role in our awful year. Kid is one of the more overrated prospects I've ever seen IMO. Empty stats hype guy.
Id wager any amount at even money he never wins a playoff series as a starting PG. And I wouldn't be shocked if he never even makes the playoffs as one. He's a bench scorer IMO.
I don't foresee Porter being an big impact player in the NBA . His stock will cool off a to. Once people actually see him play. He's nowhere near as talented as Ben Simmons

Porter reminds me of Quincy Miller with a better shot. There is a big chance Porter has an underwhelming college season.

I think he dominates scoring-wise in college, but fails to impress defensively or hoops IQ-wise. His game actually reminds me alot of Michael Beasley, the more I watch him. I dont think his court presence is that great if he's not dominating the ball. When all is said, I do think Porter will endup top 3 next year. Probably #3.. I just dont see an overly impactful player, besides getting buckets that he'll probably giveup defensively.

Ironically he doesn't have any of the dog in him that Beaseley has (had). For someone who's considered such a huge waste of talent Beasley always had a bit of a mean streak in him as a prospect. He could play bully ball with the best of them. Porter is 100% committed to the perimeter.

I dont get the hype with him. Slow straight line driver, slow two motion release with a jerk, bad defender, average athlete... Doesn't strike me as a top prospect at all.

Re: Michael Porter Jr.
MPJ doesn't have Beasley's character issues.....that goes a long way.
If you're evaluating MPJ as a guard/forward then I guess he is slow but as a small ball 4, he is plenty mobile and quick to get to his spots.
Will stretch the floor at an elite level. Should be lethal in transition. Was an elite rebounder in EYBL. Hopefully that translates.
Also feel like some are viewing him through the lens of a franchise player and not a 2nd option. Might not be a plus defender but I don't think he will be a total sieve.
Biggest question for me is how efficient will he be inside the arch especially at the rim given average verticality and length. He was great in EYBL. If he figures that out along with playing off ball then you got a damn good player.
If he can give you 20 ppg on 60 TS% 35 3pt % on volume and like 7-8 rpg as a pro then thats absolutely worth considering for #1 depending on what a few others do (namely Ayton and Doncic).

Weren't you bashing Doncic in the other thread because he was slow? MPJ is also quite slow and has worse handles than Doncic. Worse shot mechanic too and unproven from the college 3 not to mention the NBA 3. 60 TS% ? HA Because he scores 30 on some 6 foot kids ? There is no way he becomes a good scorer with that release. I cant believe how people are so biased... Dont think im some Doncic fanboy, i dont think that highly of him but he is clearly better than MPJ, CLEARLY and neither of them are #1 material. Bagley and Bamba, Ayton maybe is he stops being tissue soft.

Yup, which is why I said I like Doncic best as a 4....same as MPJ.
The rest just sounds like emotions so no point in addressing.

Re: Michael Porter Jr.
I wonder if Porter Jr will be able to beat SFs off the dribble. In general, his first step is ok, but he doesn't have the best quickness.
His college season will answer a lot of Qs surrounding his game.

Re: Michael Porter Jr.
He's pretty explosive, he's just a really straight line athlete imo, lacks that lateral movement and change of direction, and the primitive handles don't help that look.
I feel like a floor for him is Otto Porter without the defense.

Re: Michael Porter Jr.
I can kind of see a Otto Porter comp except Porter Jr has a much bigger frame, is wired as a shot hunter and should be a better rebounder.
