Re: 2017 Hawks Offseason Thread
I know GMs have to be political and never admit they are tanking, but you don't have to say "it's never a negative for a team to be in the playoffs". I'm never into tanking but that statement is disturbing. Either he's lying or he's stupid and saying things like that are part of the reason that the NBA will never get serious about eliminating the incentive to tank. Everyone touts the party line but no one really believes it. Is there anyone in Indiana who views their playoff birth last year as a positive?

I don't feel that's accurate, plenty of GMs are pretty explicit about their team's outlook when they throw around words and phrases such as "rebuilding", "taking a step backwards to take two steps forward" and "youth movement". Have they ever said "tank" exactly? No but that would be just as stupid as making a playoff guarantee *ahem*. Plenty of Indy fans found their playoff berth to be a positive because they got to see development particularly out of Myles Turner whom is looked at as a key piece of their rebuild without George. That's not much different than what the Hawks are expecting with Dennis.

He will be waived immediately. I would hope the Hawks are getting a 2nd round pick for the trouble in helping the Clips.

Re: 2017 Hawks Offseason Thread
This is Hawks GM Travis Schlenk's second trade with the Clippers. He previously acquired a draft pick from L.A. this summer.
Very interesting way to phrase this and a noteworthy blurb to include.

Can someone translate wtf we did? What were the "draft considerations" we supposedly traded?

Cliff Notes version from an uninterested observer: Clippers traded cash and a player with a small contract to Atlanta for a smaller cash amount and/or the draft rights to a stashed player who will never play in the NBA.
This allowed LAC to get just under the luxury cap.
We waived the player immediately.
There was literally no competitive benefit for us to do this. But it does build/maintain goodwill with opposing front offices should we find ourselves needing to do the same in the future.
NOTE: This is yet another reason not to waste stashed 2nd round draftees moving forward. They can always be included in small trades to finalize minor deals. (It's actually how we acquired Thabo years ago in a sign-and-trade.)
Add'l NOTE: Now, as then, the other team does establish a trade exception in the process.

Love it. I don't think I've been this excited about a draft for us since 2005...oh on a side note, from now on we each take a shot (or a sip of your finest perrier..mace) everytime Schlenk mentions what a find Draymond Green was for the Warriors. We get it, you were involved in the drafting of Green...
We need a top 5 pick. We need a top 3 pick. Lol. It's time. Adam Silver who gets the first and second pick between us and the Bulls. But there's always that Bud effect where we end up getting a late lotto pick. Take the year off Bud. Lol.

Absolutely nothing, apparently.
