Being the "best" player on the Knicks *since* Ewing ≠ being a great player. If it did, he would have had won more games and made it past the first round more. We drafted Ewing and let him down. We traded for Melo when we didn't have to and it made it impossible to acquire decent players. The Melo era was predictably disappointing.
I put Melo slightly above Bernard King.
I would've loved to see what Ewing's Knicks would've looked like with a guy like Melo.
We had a shot at King and Ewing playing together but the Knicks, in their infinite stupidity, chose to ride King like Secretariat through a season that everyone else pretty knew was already lost until King blew his knees out. That was the season right before the Knicks drafted Ewing. King was only 28 at the time and was averaging 32ppg, 5.0rpg, 4.6apg while shooting 53% from the field.
