SJ. Leuer seems like he's better with his minutes more limited, and SJ seems like he needs to play quite a bit to get in the flow.
I also (like everyone else) like the idea of SJ/Bradley setting the tone defensively.

Re: Stanley Johnson or Jon Leuer
If I am being 100% honest, my ideal lineup to start the season would be;
RJ
Bradley
Johnson
Ellenson
Andre
First off the bench for each position;
Ish
Kennard
Harris
Luer
Boban
Its time to find out exactly what the team has in the younger players and what value they have. Ellenson is dynamic offensively and should be utilized. If that's just to much for SVG to swallow, go with what could be the teams best lineup;
RJ
Bradley
Johnson
Harris
Andre
Backup
Ish
Bullock
Kennard
Ellenson
Boban
I don't understand the point of having draft picks if they don't play so lets see what the team has got. Otherwise Stan needs to stop keeping his picks and use them in trades.

THIS!
No point bragging about not mortgaging the future if the picks you use rot on the bench or get yanked on every mistake while the "stars" don't!
If the standard is you EARN playing time on D then SVG needs to hold EVERY player to that standard - not just the kids
At this point I'd rather package all our kids (SJ, Henry & Luke) with a larger contract (Jon) for a stud that is gonna takeover the team on both ends.
Coulda/shoulda/woulda got Jimmy Butler with that package!

SJ. it's his last chance to prove he belongs, so start him and give him 30 minutes a night and see if he swims or sinks. What do we have to lose?
And Tobias should start too. He wouldn't be too happy to play reserve role for SJ and Leuer.
EDIT: Even better, start Ellenson like zeebneeb said, or at least give him a proper role in the rotation.

Re: Stanley Johnson or Jon Leuer
Start Johnson,Harris up front. I think van gundys plan each season is to find veteran
(Meeks to KCP)(Morris and Johnson) (Laur and Ellenson) now (Galloway and Kennard) to play against them for two- years and then rid himself of the vet and let the draft pick a long leash. I'm expecting Kennard to be to polished and get 10-12 minutes a game this yr. Galloway will play like 8 min a game avg. Mostly back to backs, games when both raggie and ish can't get the offense going, and short bursts when van Bundy wants to try to completely lock down on defense the best he can. Way expensive for this many minutes but so was boban, and many of our other 11 and 12 men over the years. Hey its Detroit we got have a different approach we can't all just cherry pick Dwayne wades, we got too overpay. Remember SVG 1st attempt at free agency was a big offer at the time for Isiah Thomas, he rejected it as to part of the reason we overpay everyone.

Re: Stanley Johnson or Jon Leuer
Ill go one further. I support SVG as he has done an excellent job thus far in reinvigorating the fan base and turned the team around. With that said, if we see extended minuets from tolliver he needs to be front office only and should step down as coach and go grab a new one.(stay on as GM)
Tolliver, and vets like him should only play if absolutely needed. Its time to let the younger players start playing and if it trainwrecks it trainwrecks. So be it. Give it 20 games at least Stan. Otherwise it could become obvious you have lost your feel for actual coaching.
I am really tired of having draft picks for no reason. Some on here want tbe team to tank. Why? What makes you sure Stan would even play a player picked 3,4 or 5? As soon as they make any mistake they don't see the floor for months.
Stan seems to like the idea of draft picks but never plays them. Time to start packaging them for known quantities.

Southern Piston made a good point:
Meeks
Morris
Jon
Galloway
All acquisitions that appear(ed) to roadblock the young guys
KCP
SJ
Henry
Kennard
Meeks was dealt after being injured forever and never roadblocked KCP at all.
Morris has been moved opening up a spot for SJ
Will be interesting to see if Jon gets moved over the next 12 months to open up a spot for Henry
As for Galloway: I think SVG was hedging his bets at SG & PG on that one.
RJs knee was already known as something that will never be fully fixed. Galloway provided some insurance there.
Going into Free Agency many on here assumed Rich Paul would do what he always does. Galloway provided some insurance there
2 years from now Galloway might not even be here and if he is he's far more likely to be backing up Kennard than playing in front of him

Re: Stanley Johnson or Jon Leuer
Stanley has put in some serious work on his body and on his skills this summer. Those were two things I’d hoped he would focus on.
He also put aside his stubborn ego and followed the express instructions of his coaches by staying away from pick-up games for the most part.
The kid is coming back better on so many levels and it’s going to show in camp. I believe keeping him out of the starting lineup is going to be extremely difficult.
That being said, the success of the team will be predicated on defense. Stanimal is one of our best defenders. Pairing him with Avery Bradley could potentially make us one of the better perimeter defending teams. And if Drummond takes that next step, we could be an elite defensive team.
We saw what we had in Leuer last season, namely a guy in his prime years best suited for a backup role.
It’s time to see what we have in Stanley Johnson.

Re: Stanley Johnson or Jon Leuer
Stanley should start with RJ, AB, Tobias and Dre. That's our best 5 plain and simple. You start Stanley because this team as it's built is in limbo and if Stanley looks good, that could change.
If Stanley doesn't pan out we essentially have 1.5 (maybe) small forwards and we have to make another move or go back to the draft and...this era may be over soon.

It's do or die for Stanley. Throw him into the fire with no leash and give him a chance to prove himself.
