Just days removed from being traded to the Thunder, Anthony said he’s spoken with most of his former teammates with the Knicks — including Kristaps Porzingis — and feels an obligation to keep tabs on how they do this season.
“I will always keep an eye on them. I have to,” Anthony told The Post on Tuesday. “KP is somebody who I look at as a little brother. Lance [Thomas] was one of my best friends on that team. Kyle O’Quinn, we became very close. Tim [Hardaway] Jr. was a guy who I played with before and worked out with. All of those guys, I’ll communicate with them throughout the season.”

From that moment I knew it wasn't about winning. It was about box office. And from that standpoint, the Melo Era was a success for the franchise. He's a hugely popular player. For reasons I don't know why, his personality never really rubbed me the right way.
They were never going to win because his place on the team was very much like his place on the court. There was not enough shots or cash left for anyone significant after Melo got his. And Melo getting his was first, second and third priority for this franchise.
I'm not faulting him for that. It doesn't make him a bad guy, but once he was here, there was no road to building a good team around him. They were constantly reaching for pricey vets who were nice pieces individually but none of them were difference makers. In hindsight, signing Amare was a bad move, if they were so sure they were getting Melo. Their games weren't going to be a good fit. He didn't fit the coach either.
Hopefully now we have a front office team with Mills & Perry that will have some forethought before they act. Although the Hardaway signing seemed to be a bit impulsive.
Melo always bristled when someone else shined. From Lin to KP, there are moments where you can see where he felt diminished by their spotlight. Players tend to be territorial. It's an alpha trait. He's on Westbrook's team now and will at least initially go along with the program and be a helluva third option. I wish him success.
I wish more success for the Knicks who are entering Rangers territory with this championship drought. 44 years and counting. Looking at least 5 years away from being a serious contender, if they play their cards right with this rebuild.
When did Melo bristle when KP shined?
Yeah the last person anyone looking to make up things about as far as having friction with Anthony is Porzingis.

I was upset at Tyson being traded but got over it quickly. This one is going to take a minute. The season needs to hurry up so I can heal and watch my Knicks...and complain about them being clueless. You know, normal stuff.
Really? I'm happy for him. He's got a great FO & a roster which compliments his strengths and covers up for his weaknesses.
It's too bad this is happening at this stage of his career.

I love the bond. I'm happy that throughout all the bs the players stuck together. That's a testament to the character of Melo, the vets and our young guys.

It's just a situation that just didn't work out, the best situation for both was to move on. Players bond as friends too, just like any other job. Not surprised for Melo to keep tabs, overall you can tell he's been a good teammate and has made a lot of friends over the course of his career.

Same here. But this organization couldn't get out of their own damn way.
Hoping that Perry helps KP Frank WHG THJ in a way that Melo never got.

I meant his age. He finally gets on a squad with other stars, shooters and defenders but he could only compete at a high level for maybe two more years.

The question is only ridiculous to a player who is more in love with himself than considering reasonable scenarios or wanting to do whatever it took to win, including coming off the bench, so far as that is warranted/best for the team. Is he more interested in starting than he is in winning, if deepening the bench is required?
I understand he has pride but honestly, does the question have to be laughed off like that.
It's a bad look, and frankly those two clowns are not helping. They all look like idiots. Whatever-- he isn't a Knick so why should Knick fans really care anymore?

Well, they already announced he'll be starting at the 4, so he knew that before he was asked the question. Also, he's still a viable starter in this league. This isn't a Derrick Rose situation. I agree with you, though: melo isn't a knick anymore, so why should any of it matter?

We gotta ban Lance haters from the forums!
we probably should have tried to attach lance to melo. okc knows him and likes him. we might have got a 1st. they could use a 3 & d like him.
Not until January... Presti has to make room until the end of the year to sign some veterans without exceeding the tax threshold for two consecutive seasons.
One of the reasons why Melo waived also his trade kicker clause and renounced over 8M off his salary to make the deal happen.
Kyle O'Quinn and Lance Thomas
For Nick Collison (expiry, you can waive him straight away), Kyle Singler (last year non-guaranteed), Isaiah Cannan (can waive immediately)and a late 1st or early 2nd... They get two role players, we get cap relief
Strength and Honour!

OKC ain't getting rid of Collison like that. Westbrook would veto that immediately. He's too beloved in OKC. Since OKC's above the cap, you'd have to match salaries to make the deal. You'd have to add and waive a bunch of minimum salaried players and OKC is probably not gonna do that right now

Hoping they somehow win a title and Melo goes into the HOF as a Knick. If both happen, NYK fans will celebrate him. I will regardless.

you know damn well melo was never coming off the bench. it was a dumb question and this was an even dumber reaction to his response. he's gone, let it go.
