I wonder if Donovan is caught up in any of this.

Beasely quoted as stating that "you guys are just catching on". Sounds like it has been going on a while, and could would be widespread.

People around the situation are calling this the least surprising news ever, but I don't think you need to be close to the situation to feel that way. Of course this has been going on. There's so much money involved in the NCAA.

The only thing surprising would be if a coach, manager, recruiting agent, etc was stupid enough to have documentation of anything. Idiots. Never leave a paper trail. Cash.

At some point you might think of yourself as invincible. Louisville recently got busted for hiring prostitutes for recruiting visits and Pitino still held his job. There was no pressure from the NCAA against this issue, but the FBI getting involved was something they might not have expected.

The real decision the Jazz FO is making is between Continuity, Cap Flexibility, and Cash Considerations.

If I had to guess.... I'd say yes. He was recruited, he wasn't some lowly walk-on or unknown prospect. But I also don't think it'll matter to the players who were involved. They are gone. It's the staff/University that will pay the price (rightfully so).
There's another reason that Mitchell was so excited to get to the NBA .... wanted to get the **** out of Dodge!

The thing with Donovan is his family is well off enough not to take unnecessary risks for small amounts of money. His dad is a sports executive who could suffer professional consequences if caught up in it.

I came across a pretty good stoner metal album, if anyone is into that. Check out Bird, by Ex People (terrible name, but a good album). Look it up.

I somehow found out that there is a band called "Bong Of Cthulhu." Obviously I had to check them out. While they're ok, they're not nearly as good as their name (I still chuckle when I think about it, it's awesome!). But they might have the best name I've heard since Ringo Deathstarr (who are actually pretty good).

Re: The Official Jazz Off-Topic Thread
Don't know if there are any John Dies at the End fans reading here, but I just finished the 3rd book (What the Hell Did I Just Read: A Novel of Cosmic Horror) and it's pretty good. Funny, and a lot of really good quotable lines and paragraphs. On the downside, the last 20% are not that great, the conclusion is just meh, and the location to where everyone needs to go in order to resolve the conflict is revealed like 10% in, and then everyone just screws around for most of the book (the next 60% or so) without going there, even though it all happens in the same place\town.
Still, it's a worthwhile book which I'd recommend. Also, check out the movie (John Dies at the End) which is based on the first book--it's better than the book (more focused) imho and is a lot of fun.

Try to watch the movie and see if you like it. If you do, consider reading the books.

Can we hire Hinkie as a consultant. Please.

It's not Hinkie... Hinkie has said that he did what he did because he had mandate to do it and that if the team is in a different stage or owners want a different type of management he can do that too... In other words - you first need the blessing from ownership. If you don't have it, it doesn't matter if it's Hinkie or DL. DL is not a bad manager. He's just doing what the Millers probably want him to do(compete).

I wouldn't be surprised if we just trudge with mediocre teams until the lottery reform goes into effect, and then continue to churn out mediocre teams because they could sell the fanbase that with the rule changes there is no reason not to do it.

The thing that bothers me to no end is that we had the best scenario and case to do a targeted one year tank. We just lost our 2 best offensive players and had a rookie with ton of potential and a star entering the first year of a 4 year contract. This is the absolute perfect moment for a targeted tank - while we had 4 years on Gobert's contract. We had enough time to get the future offensive superstar, develop him and get him to a place where playing with him and possibly Mitchell(if he pans out) would be enticing enough for Gobert to resign when the time comes.

I know. It's depressing.
