Re: Week 4: 49ers(0-3) @ Cardinals (1-2)
The fan side of me is disappointed we lost but the logic side of the brain is glad we lost as we desperately need a QB and for the long term health of the team I would take the draft position over a meaningless win in a lost season.
If we get the 1st or 2nd overall pick we get the QB in the draft or if we go Cousins we get a king's ransom from the team that wants a QB.

I don't know if any team will pay a big ransom for a shot at any of the QBs who may be in the draft.
Lot of shine is off Darnold now. He was being seen as desirable as Luck was. That doesn't seem likely to happen as of now.

Nah even if the shine is off Darnold teams will still want him as long as he doesn't completely fall apart and play absolutely horrible the rest of the way.
I mean just look at the demand for QBs the past two drafts and as long as you flash that you could be an NFL starter you'll get drafted and drafted high.

“You got to throw and catch better,” 49ers coach Kyle Shanahan said. “To me, it’s as simple as that. At least it was in this game from what I saw. When guys are open and you have the time, you have to hit them. And when he does hit you, you have to catch it. I know nobody’s perfect, but there was way too much of that between both positions today.”

I'm glad he realizes our QB is bad

Re: Week 4: 49ers(0-3) @ Cardinals (1-2)
Yeah, that summarizes the game. Either Hoyer couldn't deliver or when he did deliver, they didn't catch it.
Some of it may have been reading option routes incorrectly. Several times Robinson either cut the wrong way than Hoyer anticipated or vice versa. It would make sense that they're out of sync given Robinson's inexperience.
But there were other problems. Pass rush up the middle brought too much pressure and the Cards kept blitzing and the 49ers couldn't handle it. The CB play was atrocious, even giving up a lot of room in front of them or giving up bad penalties.

Another winnable game that was lost by a bad QB and secondary playing.Another poor game by Hoyer. Why didn´t they draft Watson? It seems that Kyle doesn´t believe in CJ as a starter. So why did he draft him? We ´re going for a 0-16 season.

So i'm getting that once again, individual performances were the downfall today?
What about gameplan and playcalling? how were they?
Despite the inefficiencies at the impact positions, why hasn't Shannahan's Offense score more TDs? has the league caught on? or is he at a road block in terms of gameplanning and playcalling?

I see the issues being talent and execution.
When the offense does execute they can effectively move the ball down the field and look good doing it. They had one really good drive where they marched methodically down the field but they just couldn't finish it off with a TD.
They had other decent drives that completely stalled out because of penalties and ended in FGs.
And one TD called back due to a penalty.
The last drive in OT was actually a really good drive as well. 17 plays 7:36 taken off the clock is a strong drive but you can tell they chickened out and were playing for a FG hoping the defense could get the stop to win them the game.
Just seems like everyone is taking a turn on offense screwing up. If the protection is good Hoyer either takes a sack when he should let the ball rip or misses on throws he should make without much trouble, if he does deliver the ball guys drop it, or it's the interior part of the offensive line wetting the bed.
Right now I feel what Kyle is doing on offense is fine and with better execution we could be 3-1 and not having this conversation. One area I am starting to be critical of Kyle is penalties. The 9ers are leading the league with 39 penalties I've been tending to give Kyle the benefit of the doubt since there are a lot of rookie and young guys playing but he needs to figure out how to stamp out that problem and soon.

Shanahan wants a traditional pocket passer that comes from a pro style offense. That is not Watson. We don't know how he really feels about CJ, but it is too early to tell. CJ is a rookie and we aren't even half way through the season.

Yeah, but Hoyer is so clearly a temporary placeholder that it's depressing to watch. He's got a weak arm, for one thing. I saw several plays broken up because the arc of his ball is slow and it gave the defense time to get a hand in the way, or even jump around the receiver and almost intercept.
Say what you want about Kaepernick, the ball usually got there pretty fast.

I agree. But I would not be surprised if we see CJ at some point later in the season. Hoyer is a stopgap QB obviously. I am so glad the 49ers didn't spend a high draft pick on any QB in 2017 considering it was a weak class and this is a big rebuild. I am glad they went the route they went with FA and the draft. On to yesterday's game: besides Hoyer's inconsistency, I have to say I am done with the CBs that we have starting. I don't think Robinson is a starter and neither is Johnson. Robinson I think is even the weak link here. DJ I don't mind as the 3rd or 4th corner maybe. I want two new starting corners next year. One veteran FA and one draft pick. The pass rush was very good yesterday, if only the boys in the DB field covered better. Ray Ray had a good game which I was very glad to see, and Solomon had a great game with his first sack and 4 QB hits. When he fully develops, the pass rush will be great I think with him and DeForest wreaking havoc. Trent Taylor I think will be a very good slot receiver with better QB play. Cant address everything in one offseason of course. Better G play is also needed, hope they find at least one next offseason.

This season is a stopgap year. There should be no issue starting with Beathard as soon as possible. Why waste time on letting Hoyer take time away from a rookie that showed a small glimpse of potential in the preseason? It's not like the regime is betting that Beathard is the savior, so there's no risk with this move. It's likely we're getting Darnold or Cousins in the offseason even if Beathard is decent.

Re: Week 4: 49ers(0-3) @ Cardinals (1-2)
I think Aldrick Robinson may have had the most targets. So many times where he cuts in and Hoyer throws out or vice versa.
There was one wheel route to a backup TE -- guy with long hair -- where he separated from the LB. Pass led him towards sidelines but it was an uncontested catch and as he went to the ground, he dropped it.
Guys just aren't stepping up.
There were 2 or 3 false starts on Kilgore and Cards often got a big push up the middle.
CBs I don't know what they were doing, often playing off or when close, they gave up critical penalties.
DL often got good pressure. But in the OT game-winning drive, no pressure whatsoever. And they yielded too easy yardage on the first two plays of that drive to RBs on short dump offs that gained about 20-25 yards.

Great points. Team wide fail. The dline played well overall and the linebackers played well also. Saleh played conservative on that last drive. Opted at time to just rush three lineman and not bring pressure and play a prevent type defense. He should have kept the pressure up.
