Game 1 - Penguins aren’t Cute

Post#1 » by GRADEN » Tue Sep 26, 2017 3:36 pm

Oct 5 against the “new” hawks, well at least in terms of recent playoff success anyways...

Our preseason so far has been interesting... first 2 games we won 11-3 until a recent back to earth trend. Saad has picked up his offensive game (hat trick as well) and Q is rotating his backup goalies trying to find a fit.

It appears John Hayden and Alex DeBrincat will get first crack at breaking into a regular role in our bottom 6 as youngster with last year standouts Scmaltzy and Hartman moving up a rung.

It’s still a youth movement especially with the loses of Hossa and Hjalmer but I feel confident about it.

Game 1 OCT 5th!

Curious what everyone thinks the lines will be? It’s a huge turnover this year so it’s definitely more difficult to predict:

LW Sharp - C Toews - RW Panik
LW Saad -C Anisimov - RW Kane
LW Hartman -C Wingels / Schmaltz -RW Hinostroza / Kero
LW Jurco / Bouma - C Hayden / Dauphin - RW DeBrincat / Tootoo

Insurance: Kampf-Noel - Knott

D1 Keith - Gustafson
D2 Seabrook - Murphy
D3 Kempny - Forsling

Insurance: Oesterle - Rozy - Snuggerud -Pokka -Rutta

G: Crawford - JFB

Insurance Forsberg

I really only think 7 guys are locked in... top 6are set with Hartman a clear 3rd line Winger

There will be a lot of first 1/4 of season rotation in those bottom 6 Center and winter spots

U obviously have to split Keith and seabs so I wonder whom Q will pair with each... Murphy - Erik - GF - and Oesterle should all get early pairings to see whom gels the best

Couple of things...
Rozy still hasn't passed his physical. Right now he probably does not make it.
Noel and Snuggerud are injured.
Knott has been sent back to Rockford.
You didn't mention Franson who probably has a good shot of making the roster.
Hossa has to make the roster so they can put him on LTIR (I think).

As for the lines...
1st = Saad-Toew-Panik is just about locked in stone. They're playing together in camp and in preseason games.
2nd = DCat-Schmaltz-Kane is a good bet for same reasons as 1st line. Schmaltz has been outstanding, best player on the ice type. Schmaltz and Kane have shown real good chemistry. Only question is if Q wants DCat to have seasoning in AHL first, and because of DCat's contract.
3rd = Sharp-AA-Hartman, again they've played most together throughout, and have played well.
4th = aside from Hayden who would be a sure lock if not for his contract, there are a bunch of question marks. If it was based simply on talent and upside the choices might be easier. But because of the one-way vets versus those that can be sent directly to Rockford outright things get muddier. Kero, Wingels, Dauphin, Vinnie, Jurco, Kampf, Tootoo, Bouma would probably be my order from most to least likely 4th liner.

Best guess at defense...
Keith - Murphy
Seabrook - Kempny
Franson - Rutta
Forsling, like many of the d-men, had a bad game against Boston. Gus and Pokka and Oesterle very outside chance. Snuggerud has looked best of youth but he's injured.

Goalies
Crawford
Forsberg

If DCat gets sent down, I'm guessing Hartman moves up to 2nd line and Hayden moves to 3rd.
TGibson (1/28/17); "..."a 4 or 5 on a scale of 1 to 10 for drama"...What's the worst? "...yelling matches with Thibs, everybody is just going crazy and I'm just sitting there...like, 'Don't call my name please..."

Not being in Chicago I only get digital lines and a lot of 42min recaps so it’s difficult to see lines - my predictions more on season / not just game 1 but it’s great to hear your input on someone whom gets all the views

I’m enthused that Q has that much confidence in the youngsters to put them with Kane.... we need them to be good.

For the record trading away Panarin still seems crazy to me

And yes about CFran. I don’t know how I missed that
