The coach in SVG is infatuated with depth.

I'm just hoping Stan signed Galloway as insurance (like Boban last year) for Reggie and also in case Kennard isn't ready to play.

Given Galloway's play so far I can't see how Stan could honestly say that he has earned the minutes over Luke at the 2. That could change in the next few games, but I think it's undeniable that Luke brings more on offense by a good margin, and Galloway hasn't even really impressed on D.

I'm guessing they'll probably split time at the backup 2, with Luke seeing a little bit of time at the 3 (next to Bradley), and Galloway getting minutes at the 1 when Reggie inevitably misses time. In the end, neither will be as effective as they would be if the role was well-defined to one player.

This whole situation just underlines the fact that Stan has been atrocious these last 2 off-seasons regarding free agency. I'd way rather have Ish, Luke, Bullock/Tolly, Ellenson, Moreland as our backups than Galloway, Leuer, and Boban.

There's no denying SVG has put a damper on us with these Boban, Leuer and Galloway contracts. Those 3 guys are basically a max contract player salary wise and could have replaced most of their impact signing guys for dirt cheap at the end of the offseason.

Well, he has never cracked 40% from the field for a season in his career, and his career 3P% is only "OK" at 36%, so I'd say most are factoring that into the equation, and are now getting an up-close look at his game. I don't think anyone believes he's a guy who's gonna go 0-for-9 regularly, but the problem is that he has never been as good as Kennard already is, so people are going to react negatively should he get those backup SG minutes by default.

If we had drafted someone who wasn't competing for minutes with him or didn't look ready-to-go, I think you'd see a different response. The fact that Stan overpaid him just adds to the issue.

Minor complaint: I hate when people bring up Bobo as a overpaid signing.

1 - if we didn't use that money it vanished after Dre re-signed

2 - we went after Horford and struck out so instead used the money in Jon, Ish & Bobo

3 - if memory serves Spurs could have matched any reasonable offer so above MLE was the price.

4 - dude has some serious skills...but some serious flaws.

5 - ain't no one good coming to Detroit for $7 mil per

6 - ain't no one good getting paid $7 mil per except under extenuating circumstances

No. Based on his career body of work, which those games happen to align with.

And Pharoah, calling Boban overpaid is fair. The money doesn't "disappear" if it's not spent before the Dre extension. It still could have been valuable luxury tax wiggle room for trades and resignings.

That logic assumes cap space is all that matters. It's not.

Space isn't all that matters but if we didn't sign Bobo then we'd still be over the cap and still operating under the hard cap since Gores ain't paying the tax for a Lotto team.

Having space to absorb a salary the equivalent of Bobo doesn't mean much in the grand scheme of things considering it's MLE money now.

The issues with our cap don't start with guys like Galloway, Bobo & Ish IMO - it starts with Dre & RJ.
