He's going to perform really well and then leave us for the Spurs. That's my prediction.

Alex has so far impressed in the preseason. He and Ulis in the second unit could be quite a pairing.

I don't think the Spurs are going to spend a lot of $$$ on a traditional center.

Dewayne Dedmon, who's been basically a better version of Len who knows how to play within himself, only got $7 mil a year. He got $5 mil a year before that with the Spurs. No idea what Len is expecting, but I don't see him getting much more than $7 mil.

If he keeps this up lot of people will notice. And some dumb GM will offer him 14-15 mill/.
Sad thing is, some (most?) of us thought he had this (by "this" I mean the RoLo like numbers, rim defender/roll man/rebounder role) in him, he was just not utilized right, and probably not coached right on D. Or it just clicked all together for him during this offseason.

Or he could be a contract season only player

I don't think we utilize him correctly. He has the length to be a Rudy Gobert type of defender, and I believe if Len played on a team such as the Jazz or Spurs, he'd be an a legit player.

He averaged 15-10 on 53% FG over 8 games in 2016.

It's just a matter of consistancy.

Given that most of us had all but written him off last April, I for one am very happy to see that Alex is showing signs of breaking out.

Well, I know it's preseason, but if these are the numbers we can expect from Len this year; meaning, if Watson is smart enough to say 'Huh, when Len gets his minutes, he performs pretty darn well...I wonder if maybe we should start him this season...'

...then Len will command more than $7M per. Sure, Len has his issues, but 27MPG avg'ing 17/9, with 1.5 Blks, will go a long way in supporting his and his agent's bid for an 8 figure salary.

Len was likely in a slump all year last year because we started Chandler the first handful of games. Really, we should have had Len starting all year, learn to play with the starters. My philosophy with big guys like Len is to feed them early in the game, so they stay engaged on both sides of the court. I don't understand how Marquese Chriss starts almost all of last season and struggles and doesn't end up in the dog house, but with Len he'll have games where he plays 30+ minutes and then games where he only plays 15 minutes. That's gotta do something to you mentally.

Completely agree. I know there are a lot of doubters out there (Bogyo, ? , etc.) that just felt Len stunk overall, but really, it truly does have to do with his development...or lack there of. When given consistent starts, it both gives him confidence, and puts him in a rhythm. This...whole...back and forth business I believe, is his biggest issue. I see no reason he couldn't be a 28 MPG, 14/10 with 2 Blks per game-level Center for us...

Even if he has a breakout year I think his ceiling offer is probably at $12m.

I'm not sure given how we want to be ahead of the curve with run and gun players that we'd be that team.

It's funny when you give Len consistent long term minutes and don't give Chandler the minutes (combined with the obvious $$ grab he's going for with contract year) he's a solid guy.

I'd like to keep Len if he can perform like this. 12M a year something like that.

Even if he plays pretty well, it probably wouldn't even take that much, unless the handful of teams with cap space wanted him, but most of those teams have centers and may also have high picks to where they could draft one and are already in a rebuild. Plus there will be a bunch of free agent centers.

I wouldn't want him for 12M at this state. I'm fine with 8M but the max I would give him is 10M and I'm even rethinking that.

Actually I was always pro-Len, and though he could have a good career, he is just: unlucky (with some of the injuries early on), not well utilised (18footers? corner3s? c'mon) and well coached (Horny? Yoga-guy? )to his strenghts, and a late bloomer (as RoLo for example), plus does not have any respect from the refs on the defensive side (yet, but as a member of the Suns that's to be expected somewhat). Plus he is an European guy like myself - not that it really counts, I've hated enough european players. :)
I actually thought he would (should) get a contract before Big Sauce who is simply too little and unathletic to cover the 5 spot consistantly, he is just a good story b/c of his background and the whole underdog thing, plus generally looks like a good guy to have around. Not sure that's enough for a 7mill contract, but thats just me. Here is hoping Len develops enough but not does not play him out of our pricerange, and he doesn't become a contract year phenomenon.

Actually I'm pretty sure the reason we paid Alan was points, rebounds and percentages, in addition to him being a good guy. Alex has had a lot of chances with this organization. Alan made the most of his opportunities as soon as they came.

I'm pretty sure that Alan has severe limitations due to his size, just like Ulis. He is a 3rd string, undersized center. You don't pay those 7mill per. Len would have done just as well, or better if he had gotten the same chances, and I mean mostly playing style, what he is asked to do, etc... not minutes.

I wouldn't be surprised at all if we offered Len $7M a year or a little more, but his agent and him thought he could do better next off season. After all, Noel was holding out for like triple that, and Plumlee got almost double that. Not many of the RFA centers were accepting small deals, especially fairly high picked ones.
