Re: The Legend of Joel Embiid
http://www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id/20971278/joel-embiid-philadelphia-76ers-accepts-max-rookie-scale-contract-extension
"Based on the details of what sources are describing as a complex contract structure, the 76ers would have to waive Embiid for him not to reach the full value of his $148 million extension."
Based from the paragraph above, Does this mean that the protection that the sixers have is essentially like a team option every year? Probably Embiid still have guaranteed amount every year but we can waive him if for example he already have a career ending injury.

Re: The Legend of Joel Embiid
As long as you guys are protected from injuries this is a great deal less than max potential for full max with injury opt out is literally the best deal you can get.. anybody saying otherwise is hating.. you guys take some risk, embiid takes some risk. But whats the alternative.. Good deal unless the injury protections amount to nothing

Re: The Legend of Joel Embiid
The only real problem I have with the deal as reported is it seems like the upside isn't there. So it sort of becomes either Embiid gets his money or gets part of it. Which is not terrible but I still sort of think we are sort of absorbing most of the risk here.
No way Embiid isn't getting what the rumors say next year if gets a serious injury. If he is healthy he gets max money. So where is the upside? The only upside according to reports is the Sixers have protected themselves against injury for what and how many years is the question.
If it's for the duration it's a good deal. If it's for one year it's pointless. If it's for two years it's probably not a good deal. If it's three of more years it's acceptable.

Protections financially and we’re also protected from him not following his health precautionary measures.

Hopefully there are protections in there that say if he injures himself playing tennis, dancing or ten pin bowling... or deciding that he wants to delay surgery by 6 weeks because he doesn't want to wear a cast in summer... he is not entitled to any money whilst injured.

I got a gut feeling that contract extension-not gonna play issue is very real

The upside is pretty self evident. We get a healthy Embiid for 5 years. The protections, whatever they are, limit the damage if the worst happens.

I think Jojo should play in one pre season game. I doubt it happens but 15 would help a little.

And, btw, Howard Eskin was right all along. Definitely holding out until contract was complete.

Speculating along with everyone else. It would be extremely coincidental if he was injured all of last year all the way up to him signing a contract and then he's "probable".

Well, it is convenient, but it is just your opinion. He wasn't cleared for 5 on 5 until last week, and he still hadn't signed the deal then.

Yep, it is my opinion. I've been around too long to believe in coincidences like that. Especially if Eskin said he had a source and the exact scenario came to be. There's nothing wrong with Embiid doing that, however.

Eskin's report was that he wasn't going to play 5 on 5 though, which he DID do last night. I don't care if Embiid used the leverage. I just don't want Eskin to be vindicated. LOL

Re: The Legend of Joel Embiid
Yeah Eskin was right but the real question is does it change your opinion about Embiid? He basically had a mini NFL holdout...actually it might not be mini at all. It seems like a regular old holdout.

Re: The Legend of Joel Embiid
Zach Lowe on his podcast said he thinks best case scenario for Embiid is he's the best player in the NBA. Worst case Greg Oden.
