Reggie Jackson has problem with ice under court...

Post#1 » by Kilo » Tue Oct 10, 2017 3:41 pm

He is not a fan of the chill in the air caused by the ice beneath the arena floor at Little Caesars Arena.

He’s not a fan of the ice beneath the playing courts in 10 other arenas that house both NBA and NHL teams.

He admitted as much after scoring 14 points in Monday night’s 107-97 preseason victory over the Indiana Pacers.

“It really sucks to shoot around there,” Jackson said of the arenas. “Places like that, it’s freezing cold. You’re playing a winter sport. I would love for everywhere to be like Miami, nice and warm, but those are the conditions I’m playing.”

Jackson struggles with breathing issues and cold air can cause chest pains, which Jackson said was the case Monday night.

Add this on top of his circulatory issues that causes him to need to wear heated hunting gloves on the sidelines to keep his hands warm or they go numb.

How many games would he have to play in to prove "healthy" enough to have other teams potentially interested?

I mean he's faced it before in other dual sport arenas, but it's different being his home arena now as that's 41 games right off the top. Add in another 10 minimum for road games and he's looking at 51 out of 82 games played in these less than optimal conditions.

I don't think you are going to find any players that like playing on top of ice. It's obviously a business decision, not something that benefits players. If you think we should trade him - fine. This isn't a legit reason though.

How many eastern conference arenas don't have ice? Very few, I thought. Even in the west, there seem to be many with ice. Are there really only 10?

The ice is there all season. I believe they put an insulating layer on top of it, then lay the court on top.

Dude sweats like a maniac, maybe the coolness of the ice under the floor will help his body regulate better. Can't imagine it's really that cold to hurt to breathe either, maybe he was just taking the piss on the issue. I mean it's going to be comfortable enough for players to be in shorts and for fans to be sitting courtside in tshirts and pants.

I watched the video of him talking about it, he really didn't make that big of a deal about it he even said he was trying to prepare the other guys about since he's got experience playing in these types of arena from his Boston college days.

Our starting PG has all sorts of issues that everyone else deals with and doesn't bitch
Our starting Center has all sorts of issues that everyone else deals with and doesn't bitch

Our coach continues to institute a system that the league has gone away from

Uhh normally, I'm usually on the side of players when it comes to business decisions that end up benefiting the owners, but this seems a bit much. Have these guys never grown up in cold weather before? And got shots up in a frigid gym or an outdoor court in the early AM?

This really isn't an issue.

Lol. This guy is delusional.

The hits keep coming with this joker. First, he gets run out of OKC after putting GOAT on his shoes, everyone hates him. Immediately evident he has breathing issues and an attitude problem. SVG decides he's a star in his revolutionary pick and roll system and gives him a massive deal.

Now we have a dude with a bum knee, massive contract, who doesn't want to play on a slightly cold floor.

The Pistons lost $60MM last year for christ sake. When is Gores going to wake the F up.

Betcha Ish Smith can play over the ice. Hope that he sees the majority of minutes at PG so Reggie can stay warm.

More than a few have remarked on not liking playing on floors over ice. As recently as last season:
http://www.twincities.com/2017/03/06/timberwolves-game-threatened-by-condensation-on-target-center-floor/
RJ went on probation with me after his behavior in the game following last year's "team meeting." This, however, is mountain/molehill.
