Paul Pierce is a wizards Hater.

Post#1 » by CobraCommander » Wed Oct 11, 2017 2:48 am

On NBA countdown Paul Pierce just said if the NBA went to a playoff seeding with the top 16 teams— only two teams in the east would make the playoffs- and he said BOSTON AND CLEVELAND. He went on to mention the wizards by saying they it would be an interesting match up between GSW and Wiz in a 1-16 match. I mean seriously...I loved PP when he was here...but he is SO DISRESPECTFUL.

He contradicted himself if the Wizards were in his top 16.

At this point I don't really give a damn what Pierce said. Trevor Ariza was better. Pierce just showed up for that one playoff series against Toronto...

The same guy who just said he'd have taken Andre Drummond over Anthony Davis.

I watched that whole segment. Pierce wasn't hating on the Wiz. He was advocating for 1-16 seeding regardless of conference, pointing out that the East is likely to have a couple below .500 teams in the playoffs this year while better teams in the West will be out. He felt that, say if the Wiz ended up #16, it would be an intriguing matchup with the GSW.

I don't agree about eliminating conferences (these things are cyclical), but it was a reasonable argument.

What was wacky was him insisting he would have taken Drummond over the Brow.

He got seriously called out on that one.

Are these things really cyclical? I have a hard time believing that at this point. To be honest, if you look across professional sports in general, I think we have a significant amount of data to suggest that, if a North American league separates conferences between east and west, the west, on average, is far more likely to have more good teams than the east. It doesn't mean there won't be good eastern teams, or even more good teams in the east, but these will be the exceptions.

To be honest, if someone doesn't want to eliminate conferences, I understand - it's a relatively accepted practice at this point. But then, let's talk not of eliminating conferences, but of eliminating the east/west split. The NFL and MLB have their own disparity issues from division to division for various reasons, but they absolutely aren't split along east/west lines, and neither are their conferences. Let's mix up the conferences a bit and challenge some of the eastern teams to actually become good.

If he's saying a match between GSW and Washington would be interesting, then that's a compliment.

Cyclical....its cyclical. The west wont be dominate for long. Actually the west isnt dominate. There are MORE dominate teams in the west. OKC could be dominate if they play to thier talent= GSW is dominate- the Spurs best player is great but the Spurs are dominate because Pop is a god...if he was coaching/running the wiz we would be dominate. Houston might be really good but they play 4 on 5 on defense. Utah and the Clippers got worse. Portland is fun but wouldn’t beat the wiz (check general board for fan poll) and the Grizzlies are old as hell. They wouldn’t win the east if they were in the east.

Well, in fairness, we took Mike Pence off their hands. Taking back Mahinmi is the least they can do.

Pierce kinda just speaks off the cuff without really thinking. He's a great conversationalist though, very laidback and that's what makes him good on TV, but he's not someone you look to for high level analysis.

I would rather see the Wizards go against the Warriors and lose in the first round and see them get eliminated in the east semifinals again.

Yes it is and it would be a compelling matchup.

I would give the Wizards two wins, but I am biased.

They should at least lend us Jordan Bell for the series.

Pierce is a moron.

If the NBA went to a 1-16 format, then you would DEFINITELY have Cle, Bos, Tor, Was, Mil in that mix.

For all the talk of how much better the West is, you have GSW, SA, Hou, OKC, and that's IT in terms of teams you KNOW will make the playoffs. We expect Mini to be better, but you gotta prove it first.

You are being proven to be right...there are 4 maybe 5 really strong teams out west if you think Portland is in the mix. Gordon going down makes Celtics and the east weaker...not sure where the celts fit with shoot first kyrie...
