I voted for the nut job Trump, knowing he wasn't qualified and would cause trouble for our so call government. The standard quo on both side are lying cheating, self serving scum balls. They could care less for any average Joe. They only care about the power and money. The Republican and Democrat are both looking like idiots. So IMO Trump is doing his ( driving them crazy) job. Exposing the fraud that make up our government. The whole thing is a joke, your a fool if you think either party gives a crap about YOU.

It doesn't matter if they truly give a **** or not, Hillary probably cared more about the legacy of being the first female president than anything. The difference is one side's agenda works to benefit the majority of Americans while the other side does the opposite. It's like a high school kid doing volunteer work to boost their odds of getting into their number one choice of school. Sure, the high school kid helping others is a side effect of their internal motivation, but people are being helped regardless so why does the motivation matter so much?

This is an interesting area. I think intentions count. But I also think purity is a horrible standard for any of us, much less a politician.

The problem with rejecting "what is wrong with government" is that you usually get something worse. Groups like Antifa prey on people who want to react against something but what good do they offer in its place?

Trump took advantage of the conservatives angry about gay rights, clean energy, black lives matter, immigration and sanctuary cities, jobs going overseas and now is primed to set up his corporate buddies to rape the average worker for decades. With midterm elections primed to boost GOP numbers and a control over social media and corporate media he can go after establishment GOP and democrats with abandon and is almost sure come out ahead. It's a perfect storm and the damage done will last a long time.

That doesn't mean that all liberals or democrats aren't racist, but it does mean that they tend to have higher tolerances for accepting the unknown and that in turn makes them more willing to engage in the kind of daily practice that roots out racist thoughts, words, and actions. That also doesn't mean that all conservatives are super racist, but they do tend to have lower tolerances for things that don't know and they do tend to get uptight about borders and the mixing of different cultures, races, and ideas. Again, it's a spectrum and every person is unique, but the breakdown between our two political parties is pretty clear.

It is the democrat that push for affirmative action, something that at its very core is racist. Democrats also seem far quicker to shout down anyone with an opposing few point. Look at all the speaker who have been forced off college campuses because a few people disagree with what they say.

There's only one party in the country that provides safe haven for racists, structures its election messaging by dog-whistling around racial issues, and actively works to suppress the minority vote and that is the Republican party.

Affirmative action didn't work. From a public policy perspective, structural racism and socioeconomic disadvantage are very difficult to distinguish from each other. The quota system pitted low income achievers versus minority achievers and as such didn't do enough for either group. In reality, affirmative action policy would have been more effective if it had attacked or eliminated legacy admissions. These are the Jared Kushners of the world who get into Harvard because of who their daddy is...

From what I could tell from the stats I saw at the time, the Republican vote for Trump was virtually the same as it had been for the previous three elections. What doomed Clinton appeared to be that the massive voter turn out that got Obama elected in 2008 declined in 2012 and then dropped even further in 2016. So it seemed that Republican voters don't really care who their candidate is, they will turn out and vote in similar numbers no matter what, where as a significant number Democrat voters preferred to stay home than vote for Clinton.

The difference was about 80,000 votes in Wisconsin, Pa and MIchigan. That was the difference, though Hillary smashed him in Popular vote.

Here's the crazy part. More people voted for Mitt Romney in 2012 then Trump in 2016.

A significant number of democrat votes were suppressed by a variety of republican voter suppression laws (as well as things such as gerrymandering, etc.), laws that typically squeeze low income minority voters. This wasn't as much about people sitting out an election because Hillary sucks it was because Republicans made it more difficult for a certain set of people to vote....

Because after the end of the Cold War, and Bill Clinton's neoliberal compromise with economic conservatism, we all embraced the idea that capitalism is the foundation of American health and prosperity, and that government mostly just has to get out of the way, and that non-market-based public services are mostly just a drag or a drain on the forward movement of the economy. That's simplistic, wrong, corrosive, dangerous, destructive, so that we only "believe in" economics, as being closest to nature, and don't "believe in" civics or education or journalism or the public good. So the idea that a businessman would be the best president stems from the idea that the role of government is basically to do what's good for businesses and get out of the way.

It is so much better to take money from hard working people to give to layabouts.

Except that is not what is happening at all. We are the least taxed nation in the civilized world, particularly if you are affluent. There is, and has been for quite some time, widespread and extensive wealth consolidation from the lower and middle classes into the hands of the super wealthy. It is a Robber Baron era relived.

The idea that poor people are the ones taking your money is pure fantasy in every respect. Not one shred of validity to that statement.

Right. And the irony is that the time these people long to return to was a time where the marginal tax rate on the highest earners was 91%! Your really want to #MAGA? Return the marginal tax rate to the level it was in the 50s.

That means, if invested in the market Trumps 14 million would be worth 434 million. Now here is the strange thing. 3 Billion is more than 434 million. So, your assertion is wrong. Trump out performed the market. QED.

And it wasn't all Trump, and I could be wrong, but I seem to recall the neighborhood around Trump Tower was pretty bad before he built it. How many just did he create building it?

Not saying that he wasn't good in real estate. He is. But he is more brand than he is a manager or leader.

He sold Trump name. He isn't some super manager, or, some transformative leader like a Steve Jobs, Jack Welch or Bill Gates.

NO ONE would ever want him to run their business. He would never be hired by a public corporation because his management, financial accounting, and risk taking makes him a bad bet.

He takes on way too much debt in his businesses.
