When he passes, however, which is pretty much every time, he seems to be constantly bailing himself out.
He doesn't seem like a real threat to score even though he beats the first man pretty much every time.
After a few possessions, you'd think the other team would adjust by jumping into passing lanes and cheating to prevent a skip pass.
There's not much question that Sloan is a better player than Frazier -- all you need to do is look at his numbers from 2014-15 & 2015-16, both years when he played substantial minutes & played quite well. Not sure why he was out of the league last year.
But we'd traded for Frazier & his $2m guaranteed contract, a foolish move IMO -- guys like him aren't hard to find at veteran minimum (Sloan's availability kind of makes my point, I'd say). Again... this is the Ernie way. His principles are:
1. Act early; it makes you look like you know what you're doing.
2. R2 picks are worthless.
3. Players outside your 4-6 best guys are "pieces." They are interchangeable; there's no reason to waste time on player evaluation beyond your few "stars" or "core players."
Let me check my watch? It's not 2014 anymore? He's slow as molassess. But hey, the numbers say this because I don't watch the games. Not sure why Sloan was out of the league? Hmm. A bit heavy? A bit slow? Oh I forgot, the metrics don't tell you that.
Is Sloan slow & heavy? Oh, well that would make a difference, wouldn't it? Especially since it's surprising he'd try to get back in the league & then show up heavy. Then again, you don't watch the games, so how would you know?
How long ago was April 2016, ballboy? Wait, let me count so you don't have to. I get 18 months, but I'm doing that with metrics rather than watching your backwards calendar, so maybe I'm wrong.
But lets assume I'm right. That means that a year & a half ago, when I guess he wasn't slow & heavy (but how would you know?), Donald Sloan was finishing a year in which he played something over 1300 minutes & played well. Started a bunch of games after Jarret Jack went down.
What did you think of him back then? Oh... you didn't watch him? I didn't think so. He went on to play a year in China for almost $3m -- definitely more than a journeyman PG would have earned in the NBA. More than Frazier is earning this year, for example.
How long in his life does a guy like Donald Sloan have an opportunity to earn millions of dollars a year, ballboy? I mean... if that's not too much like a question about metrics to be of interest to you, do you think you could come up with an answer?
Here's the thing, ballboy. I guarantee you I watched more Wizards games last year than you did. Also that I watched more other NBA teams' games than you did. & that I've watched more basketball in my life -- way more -- than you have.
I'm guessing as well that before the Wizards brought Carrick Felix to camp, you'd never heard of him -- is that right? Didn't know he'd played at ASU. Never watched him play there (or anywhere). Had no idea he'd been drafted #33 in the 2013 draft. Do I have that right?
Then again... Sloan vs. Felix? Or, for that matter, Sloan vs. Frazier? It's kinda minor, I imagine we agree about that.
As to this post, don't get too salty about it, ok? I'm sure you watch plenty of basketball -- I'm just giving you back a little of what you sent my way!
Go Wizards!
