Re: Contract Extensions Unlikely For Gordon and Payton
I would be willing to offer Sideshow Elf $13-15 mil per and Aaron $17-18 now. But, with the contracts being handed out throughout the league, I bet they feel they deserve more. I really don't see opposing teams offering more unless they break out this year.

Re: Contract Extensions Unlikely For Gordon and Payton
We should not spend more than 70M for starting lineup and we have noone worth (or looking to be worth in near future) of anything close to max contract. I'm OK with testing market after we see Elf and Aaron play one more season. There won't be too many teams with cap space next offseason and we will match anyway if the contract isn't outrageous overpay.

Quick question. Can we trade restricted free agents? If not one advantage to extending AG and/or Elf is that we could potentially use them in a trade if necessary. Think about how Dipo's extended contract was integral to landing Paul George. If we wait on these two then we have big cap holds which hurts our free agency options plus we can't use either of them in trades.

looking at the state of the league for next season.... there doesn't seem to be many teams with that much "practical cap space" to woo payton and gordon next season. The over projection of the Cap might really help us in our favor as many teams blew their money in the last 2 seasons. That may be one of the reasons they aren't aggressively pursuing a signing this season as well.

I think we do want to extend Aaron. I believe it's his decision to wait.

yeah... that's what i think too. He feels that he can outplay his current possible contract possibility. BUT.... as i had posted in my post above.... they might not be open to breaking the bank as there aren't tooooo many BIG players next year in the Free agency market

Payton almost has no market that can draw interest for, Gordon is different story, with him it's $$ talk.

Even as obvious as it is that he has no market value, I bet we will overpay and outbid ourselves to keep him.
Let him keep his bangs and keep his poor shooting. We're better off if he moves on. What I hope is that we trade for Eric Bledsoe.

It's not even me "hating" on Payton, only teams that could have interest in him are : Suns, maybe Clippers, Knicks and Bulls. Maybe Pacers? But that's pretty much it.

I think it's wise to let him hit restricted free agency, but remember it only takes one team to have interest in him to raise the $$$.

Now that this is done: it is clear that the new management is look-and-see for all issues. This might emerge as a horrible financial course to take, but it does make sense.

Re: Contract Extensions Unlikely For Gordon and Payton
At the end of the day it's the right decision to wait. We(and the players) still don't know what they can be.
AG could very easily earn a max/near max contract if he can improve his 3pt shooting
Elf - No way, not going to happen and Restricted FAgency may allow us to keep him at a reasonable number. My gut says he's gone unless the numbers work.
Either way - they both have something to prove this year more than any other. If they can prove it AND still play team ball then we may have something to look forward to.

Time for AG to earn it! Elf I doubt will have many callers.
