This is all due to the fact that Howard was not supposed to be signed to be the main C in a new system, but to add muscles and a great rebounder to the frontcourt of Hoford-Millsap.
Like I said on the other thread, it would have been different with Horford instead of Bazemore, and if it was not perfect, it would have been easier to make trade later.

It makes years that a good C was needed to play with our PF and C, even when it was Horford-Smith, and later with Horford-Millsap.
A guy bringing 16min with Horford at PF and 16min with Millsap at PF, and 16min with Horford-Millsap as C-PF, then you adjust that depending on your opponents.
It could have been Gasol in 2014-15, it could have been someone like Monroe later... they are not on the rebounding level of Howard but maybe would have brought better impact by being more "ATL system ready".
Adding Howard was less system ready, but could help more on the rebounding side. But it had to be "adding him", not making him a replacement.

If Dwight is serious about this 3 point project then I'd like to look into trading him immediately.

So can we all agree that it is indeed Budenholzer's wish for his bigs to shoot threes?

From Horford to Pero to Muscala to Dedmon to Collins...it's largely undeniable now, right?

Spoiler:
Horford's first two seasons under Budenholzer saw gradual increases in attempts before he exploded for 256 3-point attempts last season, making a respectable 34.4 percent.

“I don't think (he had) the concept of being comfortable doing it, confident doing it,” Budenholzer said in Oklahoma City last week. “He needed that push. He was great and willing.”

Pretty much every team in the league wants a big that can 'stretch the floor'. It's not really a Budz-specific thing.

In today's NBA, if their players can't score from behind the arch, regardless of the size player,
that team will have a very hard row to hoe. We score two, opponent scores three. Pretty
soon it's all over but the crying.

We may not like it. We may try to ignore it. Doesn't matter. NBA is now, and will remain,
a three point league of shooters. We all remember watching J Smoove, as he launched shot
after shot from downtown. He missed a lot. We yelled, "Oh, No!" every time, then quieted
when, occasionally, they went in!

I'm not understanding if there is some disagreement here but yes guys who are capable are being asked to develop the 3 pointer. Humphries had done it before he came here so I agree it's a league wide thing. But Bud isn't blindly doing it. He never once ran a play to get Dwight open for a 3 pointer. And that quote that Al was steadily increasing his 3s every year is bs. He basically didn't shoot any until the year he started shooting a lot. But he was a really good shooter already. I think they see that in Dedmon.

Don't mind the salt digger, I'll just dredge up something I said myself earlier in the thread.

It was from a debate earlier.

I stated it was clear Bud has been pushing his big men to shoot threes. Going all the way back to Horford.

There was chaos and vitriol at the mere thought.

Accusations of an agenda (a common phrase here) despite the fact Budenholzer has stated, repeatedly that he wants his bigs to shoot threes.

I think it's a case of hating the messenger, even when he's carrying someone else's message.

Yes, the agenda goes back years that Bud was ruining Hawks basketball by forcing Horford to shoot threes instead of playing in the post where he could beast like Karl Malone. The agenda extended to claiming Dwight, despite having taken next to zero threes under Bud and detailing himself in a televised interview precisely why league trends were forcing him in that direction, was actually doing it at the complete behest of Bud. This is a messenger that lost the message but is trying to scribble off head what he thinks the message said.

Do it, do it, do it
But trust me, no goading needed. It'll happen organically.

Naw, no need to flex on em' this early in the week. Wait a hour though and you'll find a list of posts dredged up from 2012. Stick around, kg. Once you get enough bookmarked disagreeing posts you'll likely end up on that Summer Jam screen too.

Bud mentions, again, publicly, that he and his staff pushed his former Center to shoot threes. Similar to the way he pushed his current Center to shoot threes:

Read on Twitter

Al Horford came into the game shooting 51.5 percent on 3-pointers, and is giving much of the credit to the Hawks coaches who started him on the path to greater range.

...said Hawks coach Mike Budenholzer pregame. "I was in there saying, ‘Why did we do that?’ But it’s really Al that did it, and I think there was just a real push from us and a credit to him that he could do it, and it’s part of the way the game is...the assistants worked hard with him. Now I’m not very happy about it, but while he was here it was fun to do with him.”

I'm still waiting on where Dwight was asked to shoot 3s...seeing as...this a thread...saying that...Dwight...is working on his 3 pointer.

But I guess when one is that desperate to assuage their sensitivities they will seek whatever weak circumstantial evidence that doesn't even apply to the current topic just to... prove a point I guess? Meanwhile the other rookie player that Bud has played predominantly at center has taken less than 7% of his shots outside of even 16 feet...I guess it's more of a guideline than a rule with Bud :dontknow:
