2017-2018 Rotation?

Post#1 » by PerkinsFor3 » Sat Sep 23, 2017 2:06 pm

What are your thoughts on the rotation and minute distribution this upcoming season?

An uneducated guess:

Collison - 24min // Joseph - 18min // Lance - 6min // JoeYoung 0min
Oladipo - 33min // Lance - 15min // Wilkins - 0min
Bogdanovic - 22min // GRIII - 20min // Thad - 6min
Thad - 24 // Sabonis - 18min // Leaf - 6min // Alex - 0min
Turner - 32min // Al - 10min // Sabonis - 6min // Ike - 0min

Dipo 33
Turner 32
Thad 30
Collison 24
Sabonis 24
Lance 21
GRIII 20
Joseph 18
AlJeff 10
Leaf 6

Does this make sense?

I see Lance getting minutes at the 3 before Thad gets any. I don't see him getting any minutes at the 1 unless injuries to Collison or Joseph make it necessary

I am expecting Oladipo to play some minutes at the point with Lance at SG.

Collison is so bad defensively. I'd turn it over to Joseph. He was a nice player in SAS and he's only 25. I'd give him a shot.

If turner steps up into the defensive beast he looks like he will eventually be, maybe Collison offense is more important though.

Looks like Sabonis grew a couple of inches so it will be interesting to see if he will play most of his minutes at the 4 or as the backup 5.

Let's trade Big Al and his 1 year too late diet.

Training camp teams might give us an idea of who we are looking at for what. I'm sure it's not set in stone, but the Leaf/Sabonis pairing instead of Sabonis/Jefferson is the biggest surprise here to me.

Pacers Ike is injured though and we only have 4 players who can play center.

It could also explain the late Uthoff addition. With Sabonis at the 5, the 4 position gets thin. Uthoff has had some very nice training camp highlights though.

Because they keep mentioning how the shortened preseason is a disadvantage, I don't expect rookie Leaf to be in the rotation starting the season. Jefferson is in better shape, I expect him to get his minutes.

Great opportunity for Leaf and Sabonis going up against some seasoned players, and a number of interesting battles between 1-3 for starting spots/minutes. Such an even squad will drive competition for spots and avoid complacency.

Look forward to hearing how the camp goes.

Glad to see Leaf is getting some opportunities from the get go. He earned it with his play though I'm skeptical of him playing the 3.

I sure as hell hope Thad Young don't get 30 minutes a night again this year.

If he does, we can say hello to 30 wins and irrelevancy, especially now that we no longer have Jeff Teague and Paul George to support and cover up his weaknesses in the lineup.

We dont need Collison, Thad and Big Al at all... they are old and useless... we should play more with CJ, TJ, GRIII and Sabonis... and give the young guys more experience and get high lottery pick... Ayton or Doncic would be a great deal for this franchize...

I think Sabonis plays 20-30 minutes a game at center. He will play 10 with Myles at power forward. Lance will play 25-30 minutes a game. Half at point and the rest at shooting guard.

I think we'll get to see more of TJ Leaf than most folks anticipated when he was drafted. I'd say he had a decent pre-season, and McMillan is going to see what we've got in him.

I'm hoping GRIII comes back strong and has a good season. Ideally good enough that he pushes Bojan out of the starting lineup, because if he takes another step forward, he'll be the better all-around player.

Finally, I think minutes are going to be pretty evenly distributed between 1st unit and 2nd unit with Myles and Oladipo really being the only guys to consistently log heavy minutes. Collison and CoJo can split based on match-ups, Lance is going to get nearly starter's minutes, I think the Sabonis/Turner duo is going to be very strong and we'll look to build that for the future, and as soon as GRIII is healthy, he's going to take a healthy portion of Bojan's minutes. Ideally, this will allow us to stay fresh and fast and we'll be able to run for 48 minutes.

Man I sure wish GR3 was ready to go. Thin at the wing.

having trouble seeing Leaf at 3 or Lance either for that matter unless the other team goes small. Perhaps Thad plays some 3.

Was traveling and missed the exhibition games ... any chance the second unit plays zone defense? that might solve a lot of problems.

Good questions. Wilkins played the 3 in the pre-season. I'm guessing Lance will fill the role. More of a 3 guard lineup and Lance is thick enough to bang on the 3s if they want to post him.

Instead of breaking it down by position, I am just going to go with how many minutes guys will play. I'll let Nate figure out who should be on the floor and when...that's why he gets paid the big bucks. :)

There are 240 total minutes available each game. Here is how many minutes I think each guy will play:

Turner 34
Victor O 34
Lance 32
TYoung 30
Sabonis 30
Collison 24
Bojan 24
Joseph 20
Leaf 12

That's how I see it at the beginning of the season. GRIII will get healthy, players will improve and I think a trade or 2 will be made so it will change by the end of the season.

I'm guessing it will be Lance to get him more minutes without having to dig into Oladipo's. I saw the starters play with Lance at the 3 instead of Bojan, though, and it looked a bit awkward to be honest.
