Another Play at the Plate

Post#921 » by Ranma » Wed Oct 18, 2017 2:33 am

Dang. If only Belly could have gotten the ball in the air. Taylor is cut down at the plate and the out will stand this time.

you are still allowed to tackle the catcher when the plate is blocked. but CT is a small dude compared to padded Contreras. maybe it was a good thing CT3 didn't hurt himself there.

Turning the Tables

Post#923 » by Ranma » Wed Oct 18, 2017 2:39 am

Despite not scoring Taylor from 3B with only 1 out, I'm encouraged that our batters are now more aggressive early in the count. They're still aiming to take pitches but are trying to "scare pitchers out of the strike zone" as Roberts reportedly put it per the TBS telecast.

I was concerned about Hendricks keeping the Dodger batters off-balance but they've turned the tables. Bravo, Boys in Blue.

This homeplate ump has a questionable strike zone where pitches clearly in the designated area are not being called for both sides.

Amazing. Yu is looking stronger after each inning. his pitch count may get him into the 7th.

Barnes's Blown Foul Ball

I hate to kick my boy when he's down, but I agree. Barnes wasn't charged an error but he seemed to have overrun the play. The wind was certainly a factor but I think he panicked a bit, which I guess is not entirely unreasonable, but I also think he should have come up with it.

Ethier with His 2nd Hit of Game

Post#933 » by Ranma » Wed Oct 18, 2017 2:55 am

Andre Ethier wants to play more in the postseason. He just lined a single up the middle to have 2 runners on with nobody out. He's 2-3 so far and knocked Hendricks out of the game after 5 innings of work.

I want us to tattoo Carl Edwards, Jr. Before you know it, it'll be over.

maybe it is just me, but I think Joe Madden just did a favor for Utley. he is a fastball/changeup/curveball guy just like the SP Utley saw the last two at bats. it would have been more difficult if the guy coming in comes with a very different set of pitches.

haha I love it. a guy like Joc who can't hit a lefty comes up bases loaded, because Joe Madden doesn't have enough dependable relievers and has to stick with Carl Edward Jr in a moment like right now.... ha!

Pederson Just Missed Sacrifice Fly

Post#938 » by Ranma » Wed Oct 18, 2017 3:05 am

Man, I thought Puig was going to score on Joc's fly ball but Hayward made a strong and accurate throw to homeplate on an admittedly difficult catch.

I don't even care he made an out, the inning is still alive, and the possibility according to probability was not bad at all for us.

I dunno about Dave bringing up Yu to hit here, but I also would not fault Dave for this move at all. I would have brought out Grandal here over Granderson personally.

Grandal has a great understanding of the strike zone for a walk over Granderson. but looks like YU is doing a good job himself.
