Opening Night: HAWKS @ Mavs Official Game Thread

Post#1 » by Jamaaliver » Wed Oct 18, 2017 2:31 pm

After having the best record in the East in 2014-15, the Hawks saw their win total drop the last two seasons. Atlanta is in a clear rebuild mode under new general manager Travis Schlenk, who was hired away from the Golden State Warriors' front office.

The Hawks are being built around point guard Dennis Schroder, who starts this season under of cloud of uncertainty. Schlenk announced Monday that Schroder faces an undisclosed disciplinary action stemming from his arrest last month on misdemeanor battery charges.

Atlanta coach Mike Budenholzer would like his team to play faster this season. Making that a reality requires keeping bodies fresh and going deeper into the bench, perhaps using as many as 11 players in the rotation.

The Mavericks will be without shooting guard Seth Curry (stress reaction/left leg) for at least the first week of the season. Hawks guard Marco Belinelli (Achilles tendon) is expected to play Wednesday.

Mavs starting 5 is actually, surprisingly solid.

Dennis is gonna have to bring it tonight against the teenaged rookie sensation for us to steal one on the road.

It's when you look at the opposing starters is when you realize how over matched we are. I mean Dallas is going to struggle to make the playoffs but that lineup is better at every position than ours.

:D

Some fans, desperately wanting that #1 draft pick next summer, wish for a 0-82 record.

All summer, and even today, I read that this year's Hawk team will win 27 games. That leaves 55 games
where our beloved Hawks end up on the short end of the stick.

Tonight, we begin our journey. Dennis is under a cloud. Plumlee is disabled and didn't he get a ticket
for having "Whacky Backer?" (Mary yo smoke)

On the road for the first five. Try not to come home with a 0-5 record, on our way to that 0-82 record.

Oh, well. It's going to be fun, whatever happens. Preview says Mavs are better at each and every position.
That means that they, being at home and so much better, should win by forty eleven points. We will see!

GO ATL

Well thanks GM. I can't decide if I'm going to call it Whacky Backer or Mary yo smoke from now on! Maybe i'll alternate.

I just want to see heart tonight. And John Collins dunks. I know your grand daughter hates it when Collins dunks but some of us like that kind of thing. Maybe he'll mix in a soft layup for her.

Trying to think of the last Hawks rookie I was this excited about on opening night? Totally blanking though. I guess i have to say Horford.

Kinda curious as to what role you guys think Prince will play for the Hawks this season?

I know he's the starting SF, but is he going to be like a top 2 or maybe top 3 scoring option too? Do you guys think he's capable of that?

Or is he mostly a defensive specialist that can hit the occasional wide open 3 ball?

I'll be really happy if he hits 3s consistently but i think he'll actually do a lot of driving and slashing. Hopefully getting to the line.

I think he will easily be top 3 in scoring on this team though, mainly because i think he'll be tops on the team in minutes. He doesn't really have a backup. I'm going with 13 ppg.

His defense comes first for now but he's capable of driving the ball and finishing at the rim. Hawks need more from him than just an occasional 3. He needs work on his handle as well.
Probably 3rd in points behind Dennis and Baze/Dedmon.

Whacky Backer...all these years...that's a first. Once again gramps the OG throws us some knowledge and you gotta love it.

I can't root against the Hawks even though I know it's better formour future. It just feels so unnatural it almost makes my eye twitch...lol..so I'm hoping they win and will root for them as I've grown accustomed to over the last 10 years or so...this feels like 92 after the mini Rivers and Webb era or the post "spree and Danny just owned you so rebuild 99" era. If we are going down though, we are going down swinging.

GO HAWKS!!!! (Specially on opening night...even if you want a high lottery pick it's opening night you want a win admit it ;-))

Lol, pay no mind to mac-d. I love dunks. He's riding me cuz I said ' John Collins is trying to posterize everybody and missing or sometimes he's not in the best position to do it, somtimes an easy off the backboard layout will give him the 2 points.

Just like cagey-one tried to say I hated Jarret Jack, mac-d is puling a fast one.
