Two way contract question

Post#1 » by vannzee » Mon Oct 16, 2017 3:50 pm

I'm not sure that I fully grasp this two way contract concept.

Say for example, Miami has two 2 way players. They can still only dress 12 for a game, no?

Also, I think we will see a lot of yoyo-omg where they call a guy up for one game and then back to the G league for the off days to maximize the 45 day limit.

Yes, they can still only dress 12.

2 -ways are just a way to protect the rights of two more developmental guys, and only have to pay them NBA rates when they are on the active roster - not for D league play.

Teams can dress 13 players for each game. That changed a few years back.

If they dress a two-way players, they have to make a non-two-way player inactive.

And just to be clear, the 45 day limit includes days on an NBA roster. Not just games. Once they are up, the clock starts. It does not run during the period of time when the NBAGL is not in-season. So, teams have about two weeks before NBAGL camps start and then about three weeks after the NBAGL season ends where they can have two-way guys with the NBA club and not count against the 45 day limit.

I have a follow up question, or more of a need of clarification. If a team wants to bring up a two-way player is it correct they must have under 15 players on their active roster? In other words they are not allowed to go over the roster limit of 15, right? A team has to waive a contract if they want to bring up a two way player if they are at 15 correct?

So are teams allowed to bring up two-way players and have 16 and or 17 players on the active roster?

Active as far as on the roster, yes. Active for games, no. The maximum amount of players who can be active for a game remains 13.
