Doc - this would probably make for a layup drill for our opponents.

I feel like we've been down this road with Clarkson before. The guys is simply not starting material. A Ball-Clarkson backcourt has a very good chance of being worse than the Russel-Clarkson backcourt that we experimented with in the past. IMO Lonzo will be a major liability on defense, at least in the near term.

Small ball? I like Clarkson in the starting lineup. He adds the ability to put pressure on defenses and can draw fouls. That's something we lack overall on the team. Easy points were hard to come by last year. Passing, passing, passing only works when you have guys like Curry or Durant shooting. Having someone who can create their own shot is something we need. I don't know if Ball can do that and he's a pass first guy. I actually believe he and Clarkson are a good fit together.

Clarkson's much better defensively than he gets credit for as well.

Randle is the one I'd sit for Lopez. Randle's good in short stretches.... about as long as his attention span. I also think his not in the team's long range plans.

Nance can only play defense against like 2 4/5s in the league... Randle's better, but only against the less mobile guys...

If you have both Bogut and Lopez on your team, they're infinitely better options at the 5 than Randle or Nance...

I think guys get a little too enamored with the whole small-ball thing... The best talent on the floor wins games, not gimmick lineups...

We have no pure shooting.

Ball
Pope
Rande
Kuzma
Lopez

Start Randle and Kuzma together, bring Nance off the bench. I like Nance but he can't score.

The current prediction seems pretty nice:
Ball
Caldwell-Pope
Ingram
Nance
Lopez

They need to establish a defensive identity when they start games, and not fall behind because young teams usually can't dig hteir way out of holes. Pope is good, if not great, at defending PG, Ingram was already slashing last year and Nance gives a lot of effort. Lopez has become rather adept at protecting the rim with verticality.
They have enough length at every position so that they can switch all the time. If they learn to rotate more, they should be at least half decent defensively.
Ball, Pope, Ingram can handle the ball to initiate the Fast Break and Nance can really sprint to the rim, while Lopez is spotting up for threes in the early offense if the initial push doesn't result in a shot.

They can be subbed by:
Ennis
Clarkson
Kuzma
Randle
Bogut

They would have a defensive anchor in Bogut and with their size, they can really switch everything.
Randle could have the green light to lead the break as much as he wants, and could get into a groove. He's a peculiar case, with a lot of room to grow still, but he doesn't fit perfectly that well with the starting unit. They don't have great shooters to keeps defenses from crowding him.

Maybe a 4th quarter lineup of Ball, Clarkson, Pope, Ingram, Randle could pose some problems to defenses as well. For no more than 5 minutes, of course.

Best lineup and most potential:

Ball
Ingram
Kuzma
Randle
Lopez

Ball distributes. Kuzma and Lopez sets up for the long distance 3 while spreading the court. Randle with the rebounds and Ingram/Lopez with some post ups. Clarkson comes off the bench for instant firepower. Bogut and KCP for the defense.

That is true but he only does that well when he has the ball in his hand. I think he will be our best bet as the second PG coming off the bench.

This was our best starting lineup. Brewer and LNJ brought some defense to the floor..
