Game Thread 10/18: Pacers vs. Nets

Man I'm getting some funny looks. Just spit Diet Dew all over my computer screen at work.

Couldn't watch the game, checked the highlights and stuff. I think that Pacers will be good this season. Sorry for the Lin, man can't catch a break. But at least he is not broke

Checked out Domas. Sincerely, I didn't expect him to become a player he already is. His father had unbelievable talent and crazy athleticism for someone 7'4"+ (before injuries he was measured at 225 cm). Father Sabonis hated loosing more than anything else. He was not win or die, but if his team lost, he used to take it personally - as if he let his teammates and fans down. Domas had the same trait himself - team first. Domas became who he is right now through busting his a$$ practicing. Him and Karno spent months practicing work in the paint to refine it. And to improve shooting % in all departments a player needs only one - make A LOT of them in the gym.

BUT, amongst all the things that Domas does and does it very well and every bball aficionado should like, one thing makes me smile. yes, Domas is tall. With huge deficiency - ridiculous wing span. Somehow that doesn't bother him at all. The best example - how Domas goes for the dunks. He is build like a farmer, arms as thick as legs, could clear field from the stones without breaking a sweat, with a boyish smile on his face. So, then he goes for the dunk - he doesn't soar. He attacks the rim laterally, with no regards for the opponents in a way. Soon people will just let him dunk, thus avoiding bodily harm to themselves.

So, here's my question:

Was last night an aberration, or is this balls-to-the-wall tempo our style this year?

I'm kind of hoping for that latter, because damn, was that an entertaining game.

You forgot to mention one thing. While definitely not as good as his Dad, Domas is also a pretty good passer :p

I realize that it is only one game, but here are some of my initial impressions from last night's game.

We have to play uptempo to have a chance to be competitive. I think if we get into a slow down, smash mouth game then we will struggle.

Lance doesn't have to play 30 mpg. If he is going good let him play 35 minutes, if not then he should stay around 25 mpg.

Bojan can not play defense. We knew this going in, but he proved it again in the game. I was kind of "meh" when we signed him. I still am and think we should trade him as soon as possible...but don't be crazy about it. We need a starting SF. Wilkins is good for only about 12 mpg, Lance is only good for limited minutes and GRIII is injured.

Leaf is not ready for the NBA. He should play about 6-8 mpg just to get his feet wet. Then over the summer he will know what to expect and can work on his game.

Sabonis is a player. I'm on his band wagon.

Collison is a good offensive PG, his defense is not very good.

Those things run in the genes. Young Domas is catching up. I guess, watching all his fathers available videos and playing with him some pickup games - rubs on you

Probably a bit of both. Neither team played defense, but I think there is running mentality that is now baked into he team mindset.

That will be the style if they get rebounds and they can overcome stronger defensive pressure. Their unselfish passing in the half court and greater familiarity will help but overcoming strong defense will be a big problem especially in the fourth quarter.
