Re: The Legend of Joel Embiid
If the offensive plan is to maintain the same thing we've done since the beginning of Brown, then we need to move on from Brown. This team is begging for PnR. We ran it incredibly well in the preseason scrimmage and have ran it well in the small sample size of times thus far this year. Ben and Fultz are extremely capable of running it and we have the shooters to make the whole thing come together.
What we are currently doing makes no sense.

Embiid shouldn't be taking any more threes. The three for a big is overrated. They're never going to shoot a high enough percentage to equalize inside play + offensive rebound + free throw rate. You need to shoot 40% from 3 to equal a TS of 60%, so it's not as simple as 33% from 3 = 50% from 2.

Re: The Legend of Joel Embiid
It is not tired or rust.. he has strait up refused to pass to simmons in the post at times, he has refused to back someone down and then drop step and yse his superior footwork to get easy shots, hes instead trying to act like hes dirk or durant out side taking harder shots.
Im disgusted in everything this team has shown in 2 games so far. Im disgusted in playing a college motion offense instead of letting our superior athletes run pick n roll like the rest of the nba

Embiid should only shoot 3s on the trailing play or a kick out after a drive.

You need to post up Embiid as a first option, that gives them time to make the entry pass, post and repost or kick out.

Yupp, I am starting to wonder if Embiid really thinks that he is better than what he actually is... That's a very dangerous attitude.
Hopefully he will learn from this, less hands up to the crowd and more play your butt off...

Re: The Legend of Joel Embiid
Embiid down low forces defenses to double team him, which opens up our offense. But even if he doesn't wanna go down to the low post, that 12-15 foot jumper from the base line is something he could literally hit all day if he wanted to. It's unblockable because of his size. If he literally just stood there offensively and shot that 12 times a game, he'd average 20ppg on that shot alone. He's so money on that jumper.
We all know he can shoot 3's, but it's about opening things up on offense and being most consistent. Oh, and getting to the line and getting the other team in foul trouble. Embiid's best games are when he gets to the line and causes frustration on the opposing players because they pick up early fouls.

That’s not the only time, but I think that most of his threes should come that way.
Look, he is a capable 3 point shooter. If he shoots 4-5 a game at 38% or so then that is a great weapon for us.
Most of his touches should come close to the basket though.

Totally agree. Joel is smart enough to change quickly to what works. He is unstoppable faceup 10-12 feet away from the rim. He’s too big. He can take the shot even if defended. And if defenders get to close. Pump fake and 2 steps to the rim for easy dunk with his long strides. None of this pump fake from the 3 point line.
He needs to be facing the rim. Opponents will be in a catch-22. Double team him. He kicks it out to open shooter. Single team him. The opposing player is at his mercy for what he wants to do. Either let him take the 10-12 door jump shot he can make all day. Or close in and Embiid will blow by the defender. Put a quicker defender on Embiid. Embiid most likely is way too big for quicker defender. He will just shoot over them. Big big defender on him. Embiid will just blow by the slower footed big defender.

Re: The Legend of Joel Embiid
Right now Joel looks slow, plodding, tired, easily agitated, too focused on pumping up the crowd. He needs to get busy down low and get his easy buckets and focus more on D. I think his conditioning is poor. Probably prefers to settle for threes right now because it's conserving energy to get back on defense. I love the guy but he's part of the problem.

I’m sure conditions is part of the issue but, watching that game last night Brown has all of our centers standing at the 3pt line

They have to be there so the point guard can throw them the ball and they can immediately throw it back.

Re: The Legend of Joel Embiid
The man has found his payday. He is playing to his contract. He is in risk of losing alot of money if he is injured. The Sixers gave him 100% incentive to play not to get hurt, which means hanging out around the arc and avoid the paint offensively and defensively. Just my own personal hunch. Sure hope I am wrong.

For the whole offensive possession?

His endurance isn’t up to speed yet for sure, but let’s not forget that he has played 4 games(counting the 2 preseason games) since January, and he dominated the first one, and has been great defensively and on the glass in all of them.
He had one bad shooting performance and that is it. He isn’t slow at all. He doesn’t have the wind to play 30 minutes without getting tired right now.
Give it a month and he will be the best center in the league, and we will be winning 50% of our games.

Biid's shooting
-I notice quicker release that may be affecting his %
- lack of conditioning could also explain why his shots seems short
- he needs to simplify his game. He wants to do a lot of things.

Watching, it does seem like it, but teams are actually scoring less when he’s in than they were doing last season. Also the defense becomes even worse without him than it was last season. The discrepancy seems like too much to just be coincidental. Idk.
Just need to see more of him.

Re: The Legend of Joel Embiid
Conspiracy theory..
Biid doesn't like Ben's style of play. He likes playing the style he did with the Nets game.
"We've got to do a better job of finding me in the post."
My take is again.. In this superteam era, you need to be able to find the right balance. And in this case, I still prefer Ben running the first unit. Kicking out to open shooters, including Biid. If Biid's shooting is off, then let Biid play as a roll man off Ben/Biid two man game.
Biid should then take charge AT THE POST, when he plays without Ben. Most times with the 2nd-3rd unit (with Fultz and Saric)

His jumpers have been coming up consistently short, which is a major sign of fatigue. He also looks more labored running up and down the court.
It's pretty obvious his weight and conditioning aren't where they're supposed to be, but he's still playing good defense and rebounding the ball better than ever. I have faith that his shot will come around eventually.
I don't like his positioning on offense and I'm cynical about that improving, considering that Brown seems to put the 5 man there no matter if it's Embiid, Amir, or Dario.

I actually agree with this. Ironically that Nets game was probably the quietest game Simmons has had so far because the ball was in Embiid's hands.
JoJo's game style is very ISO heavy, clear out 1 side and let me go 1 on 1. He had to do that last year because we had no other scorers for him to play with other than Ilyasova who sat on the 3 point line.
I'm not entirely against Embiid playing this way and having the ball most times as he can score against anyone... but I have a problem with Joel getting it at the 3 point line and thinking he is a point guard and trying to dribble it up. He needs it in the post 70% of the time.
Joel also has to learn to make the right decision when it comes to shooting and passing. Too many times already this season I have seen him making a choice to shoot it and burning teammates who are wide open. All that is going to achieve is stagnation on offense. Teammates are going to give up making cuts and trying to get open if Joel has the ball and they know he isn't going to pass it.
