Danny did right. He picked the best player with a good head on his shoulders. JJ is a clown and Fultz shoulda dropped further down.

I'm huge on Lonzo so in that regard the trade is a bit tainted for me, but I can see why they didn't select him as it might have created a bit of chaos.
Taking Lonzo out of the equation this has been a very good trade. Passing up a future HOF'er though might make this look bad to future generations but context matters a bit here.
There are many chapters to unfold in all their developmental stories - need 3-5 years to know their potential.
I'll say that there's no way Tatum/Ball/Fultz are not starting level talents before the season is through, (barring injury).
Fultz has an injured rotator cuff and is out of shape because of his time off. He needs to drastically improve his diet, but he'll easily be in contention for as high a scoring load as he can handle.
Tatum has the most advanced skill-set but has the least physically projectable body for his rookie season. He'll produce, but efficiency will take time - especially with GH's injury forcing the issue.
Ball has the most limited scoring potential and the worst supporting cast. On top of that, he's being put under the most pressure to perform. He will get immeasurably better once there are 2 go-to scorers to play off of.

That is a totally logical approach. The problem is going to be that this is just not a 3 to 5 year situation in PHI. They are not going to be able to force feed the development of Simmons and Fultz and win games. They can go with Simmons and Reddick and win games and slow the process down for Fultz which is probably the smart thing to do. To me that should result in PHI being a 35-40 win team and an 8th seed which would show some progress but likely leave PHI out of the draft lottery or at least the top end of it and probably a slow developmental season for Fultz. Can the Sixers take that as a win?
It has been a brutal start to the season a true dumpster fire. I don't know what changing things up for them and leaning more on Fultz would do he hasn't attempted a 3 and is shooting 35% from the field. 3 games is 3 games no big deal but I don't think PHI can go 2-8 out of the box this year that would be mind numbing.

Fultz is reported to have a shoulder problem, but for a team that has no issue in sitting rookies for their entire first year, you've got wonder why they are putting the guy on the court. I don't know what the upside of that is, but lowering his confidence and putting some bad hitches into his shot are likely downsides.

Or, the shoulder problem is an excuse for their having messed up his greatest strength between SL and training camp.

The PF version of Melo from the 2012-13 and 2013-14 seasons with better defense and a MUCH better attitude.

Pretty tough schedule to start the year for them - Washington, us and Toronto.
Really the only thing they have to worry about is Embiid, his health and his performance. They are enormously dependent on him for offense and interior D.

Many of us wanted Fultz on this forum. I was big on him too, but Tatum always gave me pause. I'd continually watch his highlights vs Virginia and think we need to get this guy and Fultz lol

That is the other part of it. From the vibe I get from Fultz he is in the wrong town (and BOS would have been worse). Whether it is a lack of maturity or more a lack of awareness I think he would have been much better served coming up in PHX or ORL. Dude may go for 50 next week for all I know but he does not appear NBA ready.

I kind of doubt things go this way if he’s wearing green, but maybe that’t just my bias speaking.

Yeah what an epic meltdown that would create.
'we should have traded down, it was obvious Fultz wasn't a good fit' etc
Now we got to pick who we want + possibly adding another top 5 LOL

I've been impressed with Tatum's ball handling and athleticism. Looks like his ball handling has improved in the off-season which shouldn't be that surprising due to his high skill level.

Why do people keep calling Tatum a PF??? Stop. The kid is a SF and that's where he will max his potential. Yes he can play PF at times but that's not his natural position. Just like when Marcus Smart he came in everyone wanted him to play PG in reality he can play some PG but he's a SG/PG. Tatum is SF/PF

Hmmm, should we give them a season (or two or three) before we call the winner?
Besides, it's not Fultz v. Tatum. It's Fultz v. (Tatum + LAL18/SAC19). Perhaps we ought to see who the pick turns into first?
Glad we got Tatum, though.

"Wishful thinking"? Probably.
Heck, he can rebound, block, and has the wingspan and standing reach, of a real PF.

We already know. Look at the lynch mob waiting to form when he drafted Brown instead of Dunn. And hey, I'll admit I wanted Jamal Murray. Last game vs the Sacramento Kings... 20 minutes, 2 points, 2 assists.. that's why Danny gets paid the big dollars!
However I will say that it's only two games into the regular season. Too early to judge Fultz. I was in favor of the trade because I was not sure Fultz was even the best (or second or third best) point guard in the draft. And so many players looked intriguing. A testament to how deep the draft was.

This is what has Sixers fans worried. Fultz has to outplay Tatum by quite a bit to make up for that lost draft pick. One could argue that the pick was acquired by Hinkie through theft anyhow (he essentially did). Unfortunately for the Sixers, Bryan Colangelo is now in charge and treated that pick like it was a throw-in, all so he could say he made a big trade and show off his fancy suit during the press conference. .
My favorite part of this trade is that 20 years from now, we can all laugh at Colangelo throwing shade at Danny Ainge as if he already won the trade. I guess he's still mad at Danny for not telling him why he passed up Marcus Williams in the 2006 NBA Draft. (Fast forward to 4:15 of this video - )
“Well, it’s never easy negotiating with Boston because they’re smart guys – I’m talking about [Celtics assistant general manager] Mike Zarren, not Danny Ainge by the way,” Colangelo said on Monday at a press conference to confirm the trade, jokingly taking a shot at his trade adversary.
Nice zing, Bryan. You really hurt Danny with that one!!
