RJ has generally impressed me with how well he was playing. I expected to see more of last season's train wreck.
But, he still is guilty of pounding the air out of the ball, taking bad shots (even though some have been going in) and generally being a sieve on defense.
He can still improve ball movement, and not just going for a bail out pass when he can't get a shot off on his drive.
Not to dump all over the guy, he's generally been a positive on the court and is proving me wrong thus far. Hopefully he can maintain his health, even if the current iteration is only 80% of what he was 2 years ago.
I hear you, there are times where RJ falls to his old habits, playing hero ball and having lapses on defense. But the point is that these are a lot less frequent. He will never be a good defender but he is putting the effort in, fighting through screens catching up with the ball handler and having active hands. IMO he actually did a decent job on Wall. Yesterday he lost Sessions a couple of times but generally he was not a factor. On offense he is under control I feel most of time. But SVGs offense schemes are so **** basic that in crunch time that is not much to do besides running a high pnr and drive to the basket....
RJ is +10, +8 and +14 against CH, Was and Ny respectively after being the worst +- starting pg in the league last season. He is making the pistons better. The sample size is small but I think this is encouraging
