The simple reality is they have the wrong players or coach or both..... and none of that is a good look for McD since he hired the coach and aquired the players.

Watson had one thing that kept him safe in my mind: his players came out and competed for him. That appears to be slowly but surely disappearing as they realize that they're not being put in the position to win games. When Bledsoe got his pocked picked late and it led to a 4-on-1 break against Booker, you could see that everyone just wanted to get off the court. Watson had no control over the team after that moment, and the end of that game was a circus show where we constantly traded missed Ulis/James isolation pull ups for easy lay ups by the Clippers C team. The record shouldn't surprise anyone, but the product we're putting on the floor is unacceptable. We're definitely one of the least developed rosters in the league as far as talent goes, but giving up 128.7 points per game through your first 3 games is a coaching problem, period.

I didnt think our ball movement and offensive "scheme" could get even worse than it was when we were under Hornacek.

I promise you that we play more team basketball with more screens and ball movement at our weekly pickup scrimmages than under Watson

I like reading the quotes from Watson himself.

Like the one where he talked about how he is stealing a ton of stuff from Coach Pop.

Its also kinda sad to revisit that thread and see all the names of all the posters who we've lost, that just couldnt handle the downs and downs of being a Suns fan in this day and age.

The Suns have never been known for having a great defense, but I can't remember a Suns team being so bad on offense.

Not one player on the roster even tries to execute a simple pick and roll play. Our offense consists only of one player dribbling the ball and jacking up a shot. There's absolutely no concept of ball movement, screening, and getting open looks. This isn't advanced basketball coaching - as someone pointed out, you see these sort of basic plays being executed even in pick up scrimmages.

Such an inept offense just cannot be permitted at the NBA level.

Great defense ? no... but under McLeod we had some teams that played proper D and it was stressed. But that was back in the beat-em-up eighties where physicality was prerequisite for D.

The league/rules shifted towards offense.... the high schools and playgrounds followed

Watched the Utah - OKC game waiting for Suns game, man what a difference in D.
I think Jazz would be a better defensively if they had to play 4 on 5 than the Suns.
So I'm on that Kokosko/Messina boat and would take anyone with a heartbeat over Watson for the remainder of the season, even Byron Scott :D

The next game is decisive for Watson. He can be in the hot seat for real this Monday.

Rightfully so. This would be unacceptable in even february, but at the beginning of the season? He lost the team in camp I'm guessing. Or just the veterans, and this is the byproduct of that. I don't know, but I'd love to be a fly on the wall... I guess we'll find out sooner or later - after he is fired I'm sure stories will come up.

McD never listens to his players. He was always a cold hearted GM.
Seems like he actually did it (hiring Watson w/o any other meetings) to please his guys.
That's why you never listen to them.

48. 2. 42. The first shocked me. The second sickened me. But it wasn't until the third that I began to lose hope for the season.

Tick, tock.

Wasn't there a city that started taking out billboard space to promote the firing of their coach or am I imagining things? Regardless, can we start a go fund me to do just that?

Edit: something like this might be cheaper:

Not classy :(

Earl's a good guy. Leave it to the pros to make the most informed decision.

I wouldn't actually participate in getting a billboard for that. I would in the news add. Nothing personal, Earl, I'm just tired of watching the worst professional basketball I've ever seen.

Gotta say this was pretty good:

https://www.brightsideofthesun.com/2017/10/22/16515926/50th-phoenix-suns-team-might-just-be-the-worst-ever

Spoiler:
“I think that we have to become close as a team,” coach Earl Watson told azcentral.com’s Scott Bordow after the loss to the Clippers. “We have to be real about it. We knew with a young team there was going to be adversity, but the part that’s most disappointing is the lack of unity. The guys love each other, but it’s the selfless acts that really take you to another level, whether it’s a veteran team or a young team. Our margin for error is so small. We don’t have the luxury to be distant from each other throughout any part of the game.”

Bull. Crap. The Chicago Bulls, the only team in the NBA younger than the Suns and one that recently had one player send another to the hospital, haven’t lost a single game by 40 points yet. Heck, they haven’t lost a game by 20 points. But please, Earl, tell me again why the 40-point losses are a result of guys not being close as a team.

This is not to place sole blame for the Suns’ abominable play at the feet of Watson; there’s plenty of manure here to spread around evenly. But an incident after the Portland loss involving Watson is certainly a symptom of the overarching issue. During that whooping, anyone watching the game saw Marquese Chriss sulking around the court like a spoiled child. He played 12 minutes off the bench and made little more impact than his five fouls. The day after, Watson took Chriss out to dinner to talk things over.

“I just told him at practice, ‘We’re going out to dinner tonight,’” Watson told Bordow. “He said, ‘Cool.’ So we get to dinner and I go, ‘You hated me yesterday, huh?’ He said, ‘Kind of.’ I said, ‘Cool, you’re supposed to hate me.’ I told him I loved him, so we’re all good.”

The players aren’t supposed to hate or love their coach. They’re supposed to respect him. But respect is hard to come by when you’re taking your pouty sophomore player out to dinner to make sure he knows you love him. Why this conversation couldn’t have taken place in Watson’s office is beyond my understanding because the message that needs to be delivered couldn’t be more clear: You played like garbage during Summer League, and you played like garbage during the preseason. If you want your starting job back, quit playing like garbage. End of story. Message delivered, and you didn’t even need to calculate a tip.

Watson treats these players with kid gloves while the rest of the NBA couldn’t care less about their feelings. Everything’s all hugs and kumbaya at practice; then the games begin, and they get their teeth kicked in. Why? Because Watson has convinced these young guys they’re stars already. Why else would Devin Booker say something as inconceivable as “It was a reality check for us” after the Portland loss? Why in the wild blue yonder would a team coming off 23- and 24-win seasons and a 2-3 preseason record need a reality check? They shouldn’t need a reality check. Reality has been punching them in the gut for two straight seasons.
