you couldn’t resist not being patronizing again. you can always put me out and you won’t need to see if I will keep my word. but don’t worry, I will. not because of you, one of the worst moderators I have ever seen. but because of me. it’s really stupid to lose time in places like this.

did you start watching basketball 3-4 years ago? if you followed ball about a decade or 2 before 2017 you shurely wouldnt put nowitzki into the "no verticality" segment. dirk before and during his prime was one of the most athletic big men. i suggest you run a tape or two from the 2000s mavericks? :) jokic is correct, but on the level of the 39 year old nowitzki. in no post would i put nowitzki when looking at his body of work into a athleticaly challenged. you must have made a mistake? :D if you compare the 2017 nowitzki to doncic to prove he can have a great career lacking athletic ability, then i cant kinda take you serious, im shure you understand me.

hey Bob7, arent you the one who was talking about Real Madrid twisting doncics arm to have him sign for a few more years? it doesnt sound like it, since Perez is talking about how they are lucky & grateful for each day they have doncic on their team?
and some of you said after 1 game (when he played with a sore ankle and after winning the eurobasket), that he wont find a role behind campazzo or even the new nba scrub? i told you he will have the leading role by december, but you couldnt wait for even 2 games to label him getting no expaned role.

i mean who wouldnt give him a expanded role, since he is the only creator on that team that is above 5ft 9? im saying all along he is made for euroleague ball / a future euroleage god, but the whole world is questioning how can he translate into the nba. why? because its a different world, because there was never a situation where a european guard would keep up with the hype or even top the hype.

as for the 100th time, i see a good nba career for him, but he wont be a nba point guard. not at 6ft8, and he wont be a nr1 option on an nba team. he will be a solind do it all starter at best. (and thats great in my opinion).

I don’t think Dončić is in a “no verticality” segment either. Just some incorrect assumptions.

Yes, that's the most likely scenario. It's really hard to become a true NBA star.

However, it's my personal opinion that that's also his floor. To me it's as close to a sure thing as it gets that he's going to end up being AT LEAST a solid do-it-all starter, the type of a sure thing we have never seen from a European prospect. Maybe Pau Gasol, but he was almost 21 on draft night.

He will be a creator in game. Wherever he will play.
There are really just a few Magic, Bird, Jordan, Lebron type of superstars. Actually 4 to 6 in more than 30 years. But there were more than 30 first picks.
Being first pick doesn’t mean you will be a superstar.
He will be Dončić.
Magic or LeBron are not Dončić. ;)
And before Magic there was no Magic. But there was the Doctor J.....

i never put him there. i just said nowitzki during his career can be seen as unathletic or average athletic onyl by someone who jumped on the bball wagon only recently

so you are saying doncic can come to such status, production level as the players you mentioned above (jordan, magic, lebron ...)?

im stating he wont be able to make such inpact with the skills and god given ability he has, becuase i dont see none of his skills or atributetes standing above anything the nba has to offer. he is a great complete package, but i dont see a thing that would make a nba team make him the nr1 option.

it wont be the vision, because we saw teodosic cant get by with his 5 flashy passes and take over the game with just that in the best league in the world. it takes more of the above average. (i know its just 3 games in and he got injured, but im pretty shure i will be able to say that 80 games into the season).

i still stand by this: doncic = euro basketball god; today one of the top 5 current euroleague players at 18
but average, solid in the nba in a few years. just not in the impact / westbrook, curry, harden, durant, lebron, ... stratosphere.

Well, since we're predicting the future once again I'll throw in my 2 cents. He will have a much bigger impact in nba then most posters here are expecting.

isnt that the topic title? to try to forsee his future in the best league in the nba?

if another topic will be opened up: LUKA DONCICS CURRENT PLAY ANALYSIS, i wont be posting there, since it is clear that he is playing phenomenal basketball within the euroleague/acb frameset and competition.

if you get upset by someone who says IMO doncic willl translate into the nba like this and that, then you have a problem with yourself.
and god beware someone says doncic IMO wont be leveled with harden, curry, durant, lebron once is said & done.

hayward. hayward comes to mind. isnt that a good ceiling? some will say hayward is doncics floor, but i really doubt that :)
not COMPARING HAYWARD-DONCIC STYLEWISE, but meaning that he could be doncics ceiling achievent/status wise. i dont see it getting any higher then that.

or do you expect doncic will grab Giannis 9 rebs per game?

Hayward sounds about right to me but I disagree that is his ceiling. Maybe Doncic will not be scoring 23 ppg but he is/will be a better play maker and a better rebounder than Hayward and as such more valuable to his team.

His floor is of course lower, I would say his floor is Rubio.

Dirk was an excellent athlete, but he never had a high vertical, not even at a young age. He was very similar to Doncic in that he was fluid and coordinated, but no, he was never a jumper. And this is coming from someone who watched like 80% of his career games. Dirk rarely dunked even in his younger days. I'm also not saying that Doncic has no vertical. I'm saying he is not a vertically explosive athlete. He is still a good athlete because he has impeccable coordination, fluidity, and times his jumps very well.

Personally I still doubt he's going to end up anywhere near Hayward scoring wise (especially 16-17 Hayward), but he's already, at 18, a much better passer and rebounder than prime Hayward.

I have no doubts whatsoever that his rebounding and passing is going to translate, if anything his passing should even improve with bigger courts and better athletes. Scoring is another question, though ...

But if he somehow ends up being near 16-17 Hayward as a scorer ... We would be looking at a HOF caliber player. (I doubt it happens, though, as I have a bit more worries about him as a scorer than some other Doncic-homers  )

i agree, and dont know how much of vertical leap overdose a 7ft1 shooter would need to separate himself as the elite.
dirk got that done with his 7ft and great shooting hand/feel. doncic doesnt have the luxury of 7ft or a great 3pt shoot (at least not yet), so he kinda will need all the athletic ability he can summon together, to drive the lanes, finish in traffic. (can he improve there much)?

does doncic have something that you see the nbas elite is lacking?

if ben simmons adds a 3pt shoot, he becomes in the nba everything that doncic is in the euroleague.
ben simmons has an exelent court vision + the athletic ability + killer scorers mentality. so i dont see how doncic cat put himself above talents like simmons with the skill/body set that he has?
