What to do with Thad Young?

Thad?

Trade him immediately. Younger players need playing time to develop.

there is an assumption there that we could trade him for an asset. now if you'd said, "letting him walk for nothing, IF we could have gotten an asset for our future," we'd be able to lock this thread and move on.

even then though, whether the front office would be incompetent would depend upon whether they had a viable plan to benefit from their decision not to take the best available offer. I think we all agree that the goal is to field the best team possible when our core players (Turner, Dipo, Sabonis, Leaf, etc.) are at their peak. How that goal will best be accomplished depends upon future events that we just can't accurately predict now.

Like I said, if the plan is to keep Thaddeus Young, have him ahead of Sabonis, and then let him leave in FA, then our FO doesn't know what they are doing.

Thaddeus Young has value, he could definitely get some kind of piece that could be beneficial to our future. I'm not expecting a top pick or a top prospect or anything, but he has value.

Collison/ bledsoe
Oladipo/ Stephenson
Bogdanovic / GR3
Sabonis / Leaf
Turner / Sabonis / Jefferson

I don't see any incentive for the Suns to take on Thad's contract, but that's just me...

Depends on the vet. Myles Turner is enough of a leader already, IMO, even if we lose Thad.

Unfortunately, that is not the only thing that matters in this situation. How many of the teams competing in the playoffs need a power forward? Even if Thaddeus is a top 15 PF in the NBA, most of the teams who would look to acquire a guy like that already have one. There are definitely some options out there, but it very much limits the possibilities.

Depends on who gets hurt. Some one always gets hurt and a team is looking to bring in a replacement. I'm betting on Washington.

The Pacers need another David West, nobody messed with that guy, he said jump and they all said, "How high?"

100%. That being said, Thad is not that guy.

I know the trade was unrealistic. But I would trade him because of the glut. Sabonis and Leaf are both playing solid. They both should be playing 25 mins a night. And when Myles makes it back, Nate could stagger the minutes with the three of them playing the majority of the minutes. This is the time to develop these guys. Maybe Thad could get us a young guy that fell out of favor. Maybe Mudiay?

We should give him fore some young player or for 1st round pick...

Turner 30 minutes at center
Sabonis 18 minutes at center and 6 minutes at PF
Young 24 minutes at PF (30 is more likely)
Leaf 18 minutes at PF (12 is more likely)

I don't see a problem this year. now next year is another matter. Leaf won't be a rookie and will need at least 24 minutes. letting Thad opt out and walk next summer isn't a disaster to me but we've beaten that thought to death already. perhaps we can do a sign and trade like we managed with CJ Miles. perhaps at the trading deadline we'll be out of playoff contention or Leaf will have earned more minutes and someone will make us an offer we won't want to refuse. we've got time.
