Hawks Board Non-Sports Talk

Post#1 » by ATL Boy » Wed Oct 25, 2017 4:46 pm

Since there's a few more of us now than in seasons past I thought it would be a good idea to make a thread where we can talk about all things non-sports. Talk TV, life, movies, Game of Thrones, anything other than sports in this thread.

A few years ago Ruhiel started up a community thread with a similar premise. It tanked due to inactivity, so if this one shares the same fate we'll pretend like it never happened.

Post away!

I'll start, let's talk Game of Thrones

Spoiler:
It took the white walkers forever and a day to get to the wall and they took it down in 11 seconds :nonono:

Spoiler:
In defense of Bran the Builder, who built the wall, I'm sure he wasn't expecting his creation to go up against a full grown dragon.

Speaking of Bran, he's supposed to be the now-it-all. Why didn't he see this coming

Yeah, I vote no politics .. unless you agree with me.

Oh and also some GoT talk ...
Spoiler:
Perhaps this is all part of Bran's grand plan? And also, wtf is up with all the incest/family-love in that show?

I intentionally left politics out of the original post. I think it can get really messy really quick when politics gets involved, but if someone really wants to talk politics we can make a separate thread just for that.

Spoiler:
I think they established in the finale that Bran can see what he wants but he has to have some idea of what he's looking at. Remember he didn't know that Leanna Stark and Rhaegar Targaryan actually wed until Sam came and told him, and when he was told he could see the wedding.

Anyone here into Rick and Morty? I just caught up with the series and some of the episodes have me shook. It's a great show imo.

FYI--Wizards have a Political Roundtable Board pinned up on their forum.

It's actually a really good place for calm, reasonable, informed conversation.

It's the sport stuff where those DC kids get all hot and bothered...

Jamaaliver's hot takes, non basketball or politics:

A) I think 'The Wire' is the greatest American TV Show ever made. I think 'Scrubs' is a close second.

I think Both shows tanked hard after Season 4.

B) I think all TV shows should wrap up after 5 seasons, before they inevitably decline. Exception Law & Order. That show should still be going strong.

C) I think Idris Elba would have made a great James Bond--10 years ago.

D) Toast is pretty great. Am I right?

E) I don't think Halle Berry is a very good actress. She really don't deserve that Oscar.

F) I'm worried about Ariel Winter.

G) When are we gonna hold an intervention and tell Dave Chappelle he's working out a little too much?

H) I miss parson, the atlfan and Rip2137 more than I ever thought possible.

I) Game of Thrones should just end on a cliffhanger. GRRM should just stop writing the series and leave it unfinished. There is no conclusion that will be narratively satisfying at this point.

J) Intermittent fasting is super effective and a great way to stay lean in middle age.

K) I don't completely understand feminism.

L) I do think automation is going to kill more jobs than it creates. A basic universal income seems an inevitable solution.

But it will come from increased taxing of corporations, specifically, for every robot/program they utilize.

M) Grey is my favorite color. What does that say about my personality?

N) Harry Potter should have died at the end of Deathly Hallows. JK Rowling chickened out.

O) Seriously, though. Toast is so good. Add some jam, a little butter. Maybe some peanut butter at that.

A PB&J sounds amazing right now...mmmm.

Pick a topic from above and come at me, bro.

Just don't insult toast. It's just too good.

I catch it randomly late night at times.
I never dedicate all of my attention to it but it's very entertaining.

LOST's initial season is some of the best TV of the last 20 years, but it gets pretty muddled in its own mythology after that. A result of too many episodes and too much filler.

CHEERS is a show that has aged extremely well. It's a throwback to classic TV from the 70s. Not a lot of sitcoms from the 80s are still satisfying to watch today.

Cheers and Golden Girls are a couple of timeless treasures from that era.

So what's the concern with Ariel Winter?

Bored to Death was a great show.

I do like dry white toast....and a coke.

Seems to be craving attention at an unnatural level. That rarely ends positively.
