Colangelo is a next level piece of **** for throwing Fultz under the bus. You traded up for the kid and now casually place all responsibility on him? Good lord.
And this mentally weak BS needs to stop. He clearly changed his shot due to injury, how he was injured idk. But are we really arguing that the #1 pick in the draft who was praised for his shot and ability to create changed his jumper after summer league? Even after Kevin Durant tweeted a compliment of that jump shot? The idea that he changed his jumper due to anything except for injury is ludicrous.

This is how your tweak your shot and still look good. LeBron still shoots with a normal stroke.

65% from FT. There's reason to change the shot. What tinkering he did, I'm not sure. And to overdo practicing a new shot can cause soreness, or even other issues, within the shoulder. I don't blame Fultz for what he did, I just wish the FO had the foresight to let his shoulder heal in the preseason when none of this mattered.

Maybe they wanted to avoid speculation about a red shirt year or the questions about the competence of the medical staff.
IDK, they denied the injury but they had to have known. Everyone who watched Fultz could tell he didn't look right. I'm relieved it's an injured shoulder. Let him sit as long as it takes and he'll be the prospect we thought he was once he comes back.
You don't let the first overall pick and potential star guard play through injuries so severe that he changes his shot mechanics. Is this your medical team??
Fultz' shoulder bothers him enough that he thinks he has to change his shot mechanics. I don't believe he has a severe injury but it definitely is affecting him.
And I wouldn't trust this med staff to tape up a knee at this point.

So a minor tweak to his shot caused a shoulder motion that was so different that it caused an injury? That sounds like crazy talk to me. Tweaking his form would mean minor changes to hand placement, foot position, etc. Making a change that would cause damage to his shoulder is an idea far too extreme for me to entertain.
It's much more likely that he did something dumb to hurt himself and tried to cover it up imo. But even with that, I'm not going to call the kids integrity and honesty in to question so I can give this FO the benefit of the doubt.

Kobblehead wrote:MambaJuice wrote:I think the injury explains why he changed his free throw as well as his reluctance to shoot. As for why he's driving more and playing more defense I think he's trying to overcompensate for his lack of shooting. If he can't shoot from deep, he has to take it to the lane where he will encounter resistance and contact. And since his O isn't there, he's trying to make up for it with more physical D. There's no way his shooting fell off a cliff just because he lacks confidence. Gotta be shoulder related.
I know why he's driving more and playing more defense. I'm asking how he can do those things with a legitimate shoulder injury. Being an aggressive slasher and physical defender are extremely taxing acts.
So far, our only evidence of legitimate shoulder injury is an unwilling to shoot and a form change. Neither of those things can 100% be proven as a physical issue. They could very well be confidence-related and mental. Maybe he overreacted to slight discomfort and is now convinced he has a major shoulder issue and has psyched himself out.
I'm choosing to believe it's a psychological issue because his aggressive, physically taxing playstyle is not indicative of someone with a shoulder injury. He's playing out of character of a hurt player.
We don't know the extent of the shoulder issue. It might be enough that he doesn't feel comfortable launching a ball from 23 feet but fine going for a layup. He can also extend his arms out to his side and shuffle his feet to play D but that's a different mechanic than a 3 point shot. Put your arms out to your side. Now, pretend to shoot a basketball (and imagine you have people draped on you, trying to block your shot). Two totally different things.
I think it's physical. He's mentally tough enough to go looking for contact and play tough, physical D but not mentally tough enough to shoot from deep? The shoulder is holding back his shot, and he's doing his best to tough through it and do what he physically is able which is go to the hoop and play D.

Bursitis is most often caused by repetitive, minor impact on the area
Overuse or injury to the joint at work or play can also increase a person's risk of bursitis.

I know, CRAZY TALK! A slight degree difference in a way you don't normally shoot would definitely not cause this injury.

"I don't think a cortisone shot treating a shoulder that we reported as sore is necessarily cause for a (press) release or cause for an announcement," Colangelo said, adding, "I think we've been pretty transparent."
It's funny that he doesn't really understand the situation at hand. We don't want a press release about a cortisone shot. We're asking for answers why the number 1 pick in the draft is shooting like Shaq. Prior to today, the answers have been "he changed his shot on his own" and "he's dealing with a slight injury".
If Colangelo feels like those are sufficient enough responses to quiet the wolves (fans and media) then he is truly out of touch with reality.

Lebron to Philly 2018 confirmed. Making sure the troops are healthy.
They say an analytics man doesn't have a heart, but I ran the numbers and nothing can be further from the truth - Sam Hinkie probably

You're right. He simply doesn't get it.
The difference between him and Hinkie is that Hinkie didn't care about this PR stuff, but Colangelo doesn't understand the PR stuff, and that is a distinction without a difference for us.
We still are left on the outside wondering what is going on, but hell at least the agents apparently are appeased.

Re: Markelle Fultz Discussion II
This whole thing is bizarre to me.. very very bizarre.. I've never seen this before in NBA. It's like Fultz is turning into the NBA version of Vince Young. Where all of the sudden, he mentally loses it. I thought Fultz was going to be a really good player in the league. I liked his handles and his shot. Not sure what happened to him in the past month but I would be very concerned.
The biggest red flag is that he's passing up wide open shots and not putting up attempts. If he has an off night, he still should keep shooting. Keep attacking. One of the main things I like about Lonzo. No matter what occurrs off the court , Lonzo won't let it impact his approach. Fultz looks like he just rolled over and gave up. It's a shame. I think the three days off is a good call. Let him reset. And if the shoulder injury isn't really a thing, I would suggest to BC to make it a thing. Give the kid some cover fire while he works through this mental apprehensiveness. And do not let him shoot free throws like Shaq anymore. Should make him run a mile in practice for every free throw he misses in a game. That'll make him shoot normal. I don't understand what shooting like Shaq is proving.. either motion involves using your shoulder one way or another.. weird.. very weird..

Re: Markelle Fultz Discussion II
Celtics fan here not trolling so please don't take it that way...
I think Fultz will be fine. Not sure what the issue is but I am 100% convinced he'll get it worked out (whether injury or mental or whatever). He's too good.
For me, the story here is not about Fultz. It's about the organization. I can't believe that the organization is throwing their prized prospect (who's by all accounts an upstanding young man) under the bus. They should be defending him to the media. This is unbelievable. I am at a loss.
